A thoughtful drama dealing with the friendship between two boys, one of whom has contracted Aids from a blood transfusion. Directed by actor Peter Horton, this small, insightful movie deals with big issues and benefits enormously from a talented cast. Tough kid Brad Renfro and the poorly Joseph Mazzello are first-rate, skilfully supported by Annabella Sciorra as Mazzello's mother and Bruce Davison as his doctor. Although the boys' later odyssey for a cure to Mazzello's condition does hamper credibility, the young stars make their deepening relationship both believable and affecting.
An earnest, well-acted narrative of childhood friendship that is sabotaged by the implausibilities of its plot.
