The British The Dam Busters is the story of the development and utilization of the bouncing bombs in World War II. Michael Redgrave stars as Dr. Barnes Wallis, who developed these unorthodox explosives. Wallis' invention is put to practical use during the British raid on the Ruhr Dams in Germany. Most of the film is devoted to the two years spent in creating the bombs and training the pilots; the final sequence is a special-effects masterpiece, even allowing for the obvious models standing in for the dams. Adapted by R.C. Sherriff from both Guy Gibson's book Enemy Coast Ahead and Paul Brickhill's The Dam Busters, this film was Britain's biggest box-office success of 1955.~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Great Classic Stuff

This is a lovely old classic, I only rate it 4 stars because the only thing that lets it down are the special effects really when the bombs hit the dam. I shouldn't knock it though as I fully appreciate how old the film is plus it doesn't really take anything away from the story. I do think the movie makers could remake this though. They say some films are not worth remaking as you can't beat the originals. I agree stuff like The Ladykillers & Alfie should have been left alone. The Dambusters though well, I'd love to see a remake of this.

whats not to like of this film? baised on true story, maybe its because im of a certain age why i think this film is a classic.

LOL Effects

A little too slow for my teenage children. However, still a good example of the best combination of brains (Wallis) and brawn (Gibson) in British cinema history.

The real problem for my children and even me nowadays is the absolutely execrable, appalling, and truly laughable special effects. Unfortunately any tension built up was runied when my children actually laughed when the first bomb exploded!

What a shame...

The Dam Busters is a classic movie,with one of the most daring raids of world war 2,with that strange bouncing bomb

invented by Dr Barns Wallis played by a brilliant Michael Redgrave.

A brilliant war time classic. A must watch how war movies should be made.

Dated maybe but still a good watch.

Seen this film lots of times but never get tired of watching it.

Absolutely brilliant, a movie you enjoy time and time again, never get fed up of watching this movie. Even my grandson who has ADHD sat and watched it without a word from him.
