Entertaining, but predictable and pretty dull at times

An entertaining film on the whole, which has a slow pace at times (the first 30-minutes or so somewhat drag), but has hints of The Ring & Silent Hill, and an interesting (if predictable and straight-forward) story. The movie gets better it progresses, and has an interesting but predictable & somewhat confusing twist ending. The film is short at 85-minutes, and there was the potential for something better (which was never really met), but the small cast do a good job (including Sean Bean, Monica Bello, and Maurice Roëves), and in the end the film delivered pretty much what I expected going in. The Dark is not as good as the director’s most well-known movie Ginger Snaps, but it passes 90-minutes. Not a film I would recommend watching at the cinema though, I would wait for the DVD instead.

    unexpected

Didn't have high hopes for this one but was very pleasantly surprised.

Excellent acting, very creepy atmosphere throughout, good photography and a decent ending.

it might be similar to a number of recent offerings but in my opinion by far the best.

    Good parts and funny parts!

Watch out for the DEMON SHEEP!

Based on welsh legends that you can go beyond the grave and bring someone back - it has an interesting story - but sometimes lacks the acting to make it plausible

Watch out for the scene with the demon sheep pushing the girl off the cliff - its hilariously!

    Leave this in the dark

Sorry, but with a good cast including Sean Bean this film should have faired better.

It started slow and stayed slow throughout the film.

The film is based on a Welsh Myth (and yes there are sheep in it) about a cult who all throw themselves from a cliff.

A liittle girl from this cult who died decides to come back and well the rest of the film is just not worth a comment.

    Awful!!

Don't waste your time with this film, awful acting, particularly Sean Bean, and the ending makes no sense whatsoever!!!

    Feeling Sheepish

I’m sure the sheep were Welsh, but no one else in this Wales-set film seemed to be. Surely not even the Welsh could buy this terrible mangling of one of their legends.

All credit to the cinematography as there were some beautiful wind-swept cliff-top pieces and some really creepy underwater shots, but the early promise was lost in a complex and at times simply daft plot.

Even the emotional trauma of losing a daughter couldn’t fully explain the main protagonists eager acceptance of the frankly bizarre situation they found themselves in.

I think this is definitely a case of a really scary novel not translating very well to film, and worse still, of a films trailer being more frightening than the actual result.

Saves the best for the end.

The movie began well and then quickly went badly downhill with even Sean Bean's acting appearing amateurish and the plot like a badly made collage of several movies we have all seen before. I stuck with it as is not in my nature to walk out on or switch a movie off unless there is a very good reason to...and I'm glad I did because when it finally got going it was much more convincing and although the ending was a little confusing it was excellent.

    Potentially a really impressive movie

We had big expectations for this film; both are fans of Sean Bean and always welcome a good old fashioning horror. The Dark is set in Wales and builds quickly and interestingly into what is potentially a really impressive movie, sadly after a short while the pace slows considerable and with that the plot seems to lose direction and ideas before improving to a fairly agreeable ending that ties up a few loose ends picked up along the way quite nicely. There are a few scenes that will make you jump and a couple of twists towards the end that will get you thinking but sadly neither of us were fully gripped by the story line, by the time the pace returned and the twists emerged we have both grown a little tired. I do not want to make this review too negative though, the acting is reasonable and the cinematography good enough. The Dark is certainly not a terrible movie, to create a really exciting and scary horror without using blatant and often offensive shock tactics is really quite hard in my opinion and The Dark is a watchable attempt, 3 stars

    Dreadful Horror Film.

This starts off with such promise and soon turns into a major disappointment. British horror at its most incoherant...... Someone should have shone some light onto the script before filming. The story makes no sense, and worse of all for a horror film this is not remotely frightening. There is nothing at all to recommend this dreadful excuse for a movie.

    OK

This film is different but as with alot of films the conclusion was quite predictable and very slow, If you enjoy watching horrors or thrillers then watch it but don,t expect to much from it...

    Do not rent this movie

This film is one of the worst I have ever seen, a far fetched storyline and confusing action all go to make this a turkey. If I were Sean Bean I would get some acting lessons A.S.A.P.
