Why all the hate? Its not that bad!By TheWatchman (757 reviews) from Suburbia , 30 Jun 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]There are some films (ala Snakes on a Place, Cowboys and Aliens etc) where you really should ask yourself whether you think you will enjoy them. Granted, the Darkest Hours titles isnt as big a give away to the films content, but, judging by the amount of negativity surrounding the film, I would strongly advice anyone contemplating watching it to locate its trailer on the internet before viewing.
Basically, its an alien invasion movie (albeit set in Russia, but dont worry, everyone kindly speaks perfect English so theres no need for subtitles). Some nasty ol mosters descend from the sky and start murdering the population. Our plucky American heroes must therefore run and fight back to survive.
Perhaps the closest film already out there like this is Skyline (also critically mauled), however I found its plot similar to 28 Days Later (although with aliens instead of the infected).
This movie is no masterpiece. Theres not an awful lot of scope with the script to allow the actors much in the way of anything other than filling their roles, let alone character development. The special effects are low-budget (by todays standards), but acceptable for whats required.
If you enjoy effectively a B-movie with a bit of chase and action thrown in, give it a shot, you might enjoy it (but my initial advice still stands: check out the trailer, if you think it might be for you, then it probably is).

It's okBy Steverhard (27 reviews) from East Sussex , 06 Jun 2013Really. I mean you won't remember it but the effects are done well enough and the cast runs around a lot. Passes the time whilst ironing...
Average Alien movieBy RussnEmma (403 reviews) from London, England , 04 Jun 2013With so many films showing Aliens attacking the earth, it's hard for a movie to live up to expectations. This movie is average at best in comparison. The lack of major actors is irrelevant as it is the poor script and execution of it that lets this movie down. For those just wanting to see an alien movie without really needing to understand any more than just the aliens are here, this movie is fine. For me, it needed a better explanation as to why the aliens were here and what was going on.
Well worth a lookBy Wallingcrazy (15 reviews) , 04 Jun 2013Having seen the trailer I was really looking forward to watching this, It started off well and the effects are good as is the story, it jogs along at a good pace. Its well worth watching but gets a little trite 3/4 through and becomes a little predictable but all the same its a good film, nice to be set in Russia too.
I'd watch again - Great movie . . .By ZenZii (192 reviews) from Preston , 09 May 2013Got bad reviews, cant think why it was a pretty good movie. Great story the acting was good, all action and tense thriller. A different take on aliens which was refeshing. I'd watch again, x x x
The Darkest Hour Before dawnBy MelissaMarabamma (249 reviews) from South Coast UK , 26 Apr 2013This an excellent, surprising film. It feels short at 90 minutes and I hope there is a sequel planned. It is originally set in the former USSR. Very original script, well done!
