Why all the hate? Its not that bad!

There are some films (ala Snakes on a Place, Cowboys and Aliens etc) where you really should ask yourself whether you think you will enjoy them. Granted, the Darkest Hours titles isnt as big a give away to the films content, but, judging by the amount of negativity surrounding the film, I would strongly advice anyone contemplating watching it to locate its trailer on the internet before viewing.
Basically, its an alien invasion movie (albeit set in Russia, but dont worry, everyone kindly speaks perfect English so theres no need for subtitles). Some nasty ol mosters descend from the sky and start murdering the population. Our plucky American heroes must therefore run and fight back to survive.
Perhaps the closest film already out there like this is Skyline (also critically mauled), however I found its plot similar to 28 Days Later (although with aliens instead of the infected).
This movie is no masterpiece. Theres not an awful lot of scope with the script to allow the actors much in the way of anything other than filling their roles, let alone character development. The special effects are low-budget (by todays standards), but acceptable for whats required.
If you enjoy effectively a B-movie with a bit of chase and action thrown in, give it a shot, you might enjoy it (but my initial advice still stands: check out the trailer, if you think it might be for you, then it probably is).- Was this review helpful to you?

The Darkest Hour Before dawn
By MelissaMarabamma (218 reviews) from South Coast UK , 26 Apr 2013This an excellent, surprising film. It feels short at 90 minutes and I hope there is a sequel planned. It is originally set in the former USSR. Very original script, well done!- Was this review helpful to you?

This was quite funny, but I have very little recollection of what really happened in it. Something to do with aliens, but apart from that it might as well have been an instructional video about how to set up deck chairs. Yawn.- Was this review helpful to you?
