    A most unlikely masterpiece

On the surface this documentary style film, which follows an increasingly ailing and lonely old man though the machinations of the health service, sounds incredibly tedious. It is, however, one of the most captivating and touching movies I've ever seen, and not without its moments of dark humour. A film that does not shy away from the indignities of death and the importance of compassion. One of my top ten films ever.

About as funny as a stomach ulcer

...which is exactly what the character in question has. Still, maybe there's some mileage for a few gags in that your asking? well no there isn't. It does what it says on the tin. He dies. And we get to watch every painful moment of it. though I turned it off when he'd pissed his trousers.
