If the ancient Greeks were renouned for their violent games and drama, then the Scots have certainly surpassed them in recent days. This tale of redemption and nemesis is great drama, but the accompanying scenes of gratuitous violence and language are certainly on a par with Tarantino and Scorsese. Billy Connolly suffers somewhat from having such great competition on the acting front from Ken Stott and Francesca Annis, his glowering looks not quite making up for his underpowering performance. If you like good drama, you'll like this film, but don't rent it if you find sickening violence and language didtasteful.
