Fans of recent gangster drama and Oscar nominee The Departed may be interested to hear that the film could spawn two sequels. Mark Wahlberg told Empire that the screenwriter of the Scorses-directed hit is already working on a second instalment, which, if successful, may provide hope for a prequel. Although bookmakers had stopped taking bets on Helen Mirren winning an Oscar for her performance in The Queen, Sunday's award ceremony still had surprises in store for many. Departed sequel in the pipework

A sequel to hit gangster movie The Departed is currently in development, according to reports. The film will focus on Mark Wahlberg's character and will be written by William Monahan who penned the original movie, says the Hollywood Reporter.
