LOVEFiLM Review

By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM
With Golden Globes behind it, this comedy-drama starring George Clooney proves to be a rare treat in its simplicity.

A treat
By a customer , 21 May 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Surprisingly funny, and poignant, you love and hate and laugh with the characters. The daughter father relationship, brilliant!
I was really not keen on this film but it so deserves its award! never judge a film by its cover :)- Was this review helpful to you?

(198)Disappointing to say the least
By Cathpot (2 reviews) , 20 May 2013Not exactly a comedy. And the numerous use of the F word spoilt it for me - unnecessary! Was still waiting for the film to get going when it ended! Rather disappointing. Would not recommend it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Island sarong in danger
By a customer , 20 May 2013A most unusual story to see George Clooney in. He is outstanding but so are many of the full cast of his family and friends ! An apparently acceptable - dare I say innocuous - set of circumstances leads to unusual meetings, even confrontations in what turns out to be ... you'll see.- Was this review helpful to you?

did not like it
By vickig0306 (429 reviews) from Halifax , 19 May 2013I must have missed the point with this movie as all the reviews seemed to be rave reviews of how fantastic it is. I did not rate it much at all- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprisingly enjoyable - great balance!
By a customer , 17 May 2013The description of this film does not in my opinion do it justice - I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it! I found The Descendants to have the perfect balance of humour and tragedy for portraying what is really a very sad story. It cleverly yet subtly pulled on the heartstrings and as you reached for the tissues would have you laughing out loud again (or it did for me at least). The characters were brilliantly cast and their relationships evolved wonderfully - especially great performances from the actresses playing the two daughters. George Clooney's character (the hot Daddy!) manoeuvred his way through a difficult situation with real humility as the film progressed - this is so nice to see! And yes, the soundtrack is lovely too - melodic and in-keeping with the whole tempo of the film. Thank you Alexander Payne!- Was this review helpful to you?

Disappointing. Dull. Depressing.
By SilentHouse (17 reviews) from Barrhead , 12 May 2013The trailer will make you think this is a quirky, thoughtful comedy. It's not. It does keep your interest but by the end of it you feel like it's an hour or two of your life you will never get back.- Was this review helpful to you?
