THE DESIGNATED VICTIM transcends the limitations that pigeon-holed many of its contemporaries. It's a sterling feature film and one that stands up to repeat viewings.
For its most recent release Shameless Screen Entertainment deliver a real diamond in the rough. This long unseen movie has been extensively preserved by the companies movie experts.
A chance encounter leads to men to engage in an entertaining challenge, the truth of the matter is that only one of the men takes the wager seriously, a little too seriously for anyones liking.
Forced into an agreement he has no interest a Stefano is forced into desperate measures in order to shake off police attention after they suspect him in the death of his wife.
This classic movie is really entertaining viewing for a number of reasons, firstly its a very capable remake of Hitchcocks strangers on a train, with fantastic location photography. Secondly its a genuinly interesting movie to watch. But of most amusement (for want of a better term) for me was the character of Matteo (Pierre Clementi) who's overly familiar character bears a striking resemblence to new phenomenom Russell Brand, with the same motions, dress sense, and characteristics. The Designated Victim however was made back in 1971, so you have to ask if Brand saw the movie before deciding his onscreen presence.
Russell Brand comparisons aside, this is a really special movie, out of the ordinary, and by far one of the more special DVDs from the Shameless vaults. Shown in a format longer than seen before, with deleted scenes, and a fact track giving great insight into the movie, this really is an ultra impressive DVD.
