Most helpful review
very good but very dark
By BigPhilC (11 reviews) from Cirencester , 30 Mar 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
The Divide tells the story of what life could be like after a nuclear apocalypse inside Mickey the buildings care takers bomb shelter. Mickey had planned for every eventuality for his own survival however he had not taken into consideration what he would have to go through if he let other people inside his shelter. The film does not shy away from how people could turn out like in this situation. It is very dark in places and should definitely be an 18 as contains scenes of rape, torture and extreme violence, though the film does this in a very affective way, not just for the sake of it. Another good point about this film is that I could not fully predict who would survive in the end, although one or two characters stood out as the possibilities the plots twists and turns kept me guessing. I would definitely recommend this film to others especially if you are a fan of the apocalypse genre, though I would advise caution to any younger viewers.- Was this review helpful to you?

(38)Don't bother
By a customer , 29 Jan 2013Pap. Great opening scene, but it fails to follow it up. What little plot there is, is wholly predictable. Terrible. Don't bother- Was this review helpful to you?

Divided indeed ...good and bad .
By Deanoson (115 reviews) from romford , 27 Jan 2013well after a brief piece of action showing a nuclear bomb dropping on New York and the subsequent escape to a bomb shelter by 8 people , it quickly becomes clear that the rest of the movie will be based inside that shelter . The gradual decline in acceptable behaviour is shown over 10 weeks or so as the various individuals comes to terms with how or if they are going to survive..the film is really quite strange as we have another brief piece of action when men in bio-hazard suits break in and take the daughter of Marilyn ...after managing to overpower and kill a few of the soldiers ..Josh goes outside to investigate..and finds the young girl in a tank with a few other kids , no explanation is given as to what is going on there , but after being rumbled by one of the soldiers he escapes back to the shelter . Now as the door is no longer sealed tight the survivors start to suffer from radiation sickness and this is where it all goes haywire ....madness , torture , violence ..Marilyn being sexually abused by Josh and Bobby ...and of course everybody getting killed one by one through various means..the 18 rating was well deserved . In the end there is only one survivor left ..Eva who escapes through the sewers and climbs up a ladder into the outside world to find a bleak and devasted city ...so a rather grim ending .- Was this review helpful to you?

Nasty and Dull
By a customer , 11 Jan 2013I quite like the grim post-apocalypse genre, so took a risk with this one despite the reviews. It is grim but it is also extraordinarily dull. The synopsis is: a group of rather unpleasant people mostly in their thirties are holed up in the large basement of a block of flats after a bomb goes off destroying their city. That is it. Having had this brilliant idea, the writers and director then try and generate some tension with a few rather uninspired ideas, badly executed. There is minimal character development; the actors do their best but the writing is so poor that it makes them all look very third-rate, with some embarrassing scenery-chewing gradually escalating to a crescendo of acting workshop impro-hysteria. Avoid.- Was this review helpful to you?

Divided reviews? No the film is terrible!
By PhatFester (21 reviews) , 10 Nov 2012Absolutely terrible. Contrived to make a film, no depth around what happened, by who. All of the characters poor and I felt they should have all died at the beginning of the film, rather than killing me with boredom throughout the film.
Seriously shocking, avoid unless you have 2 hours of your life to spare.- Was this review helpful to you?

A boring and hateful movie
By WetFeathers (2 reviews) , 28 Oct 2012Bad acting, one dimensional and implausible characters, pointless and gratuitous violence against women and constant equations with homosexuality and deviancy.
In summary, a waste of two hours of your life watching one the worst film ever made.
As an alternative to this movie, you would do better to watch 'Salo' or The Road', Read 'Lord of the flies' or go and see Satre's 'Huis Clos'. All explore themes within the movie but do so with some dignity for the human spirit intact.- Was this review helpful to you?
