A pair of expert swordsmen (Andy Lau and Ekin Cheng) prepare for a climactic duel on top of the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City. Meanwhile, a top minister is assigned to sell tickets and discovers that treachery is afoot and assassination attempts on the emperor must be foiled. THE DUEL is a spectacular martial arts extravaganza, from the makers of THE STORM RIDERS, with a strong comedic performance from Nick Cheung as agent Dragon 9.

we found this film to be in one word hopless you spend more time reading the subtitles than watching the film (no i did not realise it was subtitled at the time of ordering}
As a follow up to both Stormriders and A Man called Hero, on first viewing The Duel might be something of a disappointment. Especially seeing as they have the undeniable talents of Andy Lau this time around.
Similar in style to its predecessors, The Duel takes a dive in to more comical surroundings with a tale that follows two stunning martial artists and their journey towards the ultimate face off.
Familiarity is the key. The action sequences never quite live up to those of its siblings and even the presence of Stormriders regular Kristy Yeung fails to take the focus away from the juvenile humour.
Not that the film isn't funny. It certainly has a charm which becomes more apparent on repeat viewing, and though the climax isn't quite as breathtaking as it should have been, The Duel is an entertaining mix of romance, childish humour and action which completes an excellent trilogy of sorts.
Not the best film of the trilogy but you could do far worse.
