This nastly little thriller has a plot full of holes and a lead role that gives little for Bogart to do. Perhaps he needed a great director to draw the best from him (for example see 'In a Lonely Place' directed by Nicholas Ray and made the year before). The credit here to Raoul Walsh is incorrect. He did some work on the picture but the credited director was Bretaigne Windrush who has no major successes to his credit. This DVD release is of poor quality and has not had the benefit of remastering. Watch only if you are interested in Bogart's career output. However, the deletion of the film from Halliwell's film guide is unwarranted and that publication needs to consider re-enstating the film.
