Deserves The Awards It ReceivedBy McClennan (424 reviews) from St Helens , 18 Oct 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]Very often I see reviews of this film that state that this film didn't deserve to win as many Oscars as it did but it is far and away the best of 1996.
The portrayal of love within the film is such a draw that even with the moral questions that arise from it you can't help but follow the story and share the same emotions as the characters.
Beautifully shot with great performances, an overlooked classic.

Worth watchingBy Wattthdickens (4 reviews) , 21 Nov 2013This is a proper film. Superb acting all round and an interesting spin. The convenient 'port in a storm' recovery room stretches it a bit though.
Worth a watch but not a masterpieceBy Slinky123 (1 review) , 23 Oct 2013Having heard so much about how wonderful this film is, I must say that having finally now seen it I come away a little disappointed. Although beautifully shot, and acted, the film comes across less as a masterpiece and more as a decent watch and a good love story, It's also overly long and could have done with losing half an hour. Shame, I was hoping for more however still a solid 8/10 from me.
Are you crazy?!By SirPercyBlakeney (4 reviews) , 27 Sep 2013I can't believe that from more than twenty-two-and-a-half thousand subscribers this film only garnered a paltry three-and-a-half-stars (at the time of this review). The English Patient is a beautiful, epic film. An absolute delight.
Visionary MasterpieceBy 2para (9 reviews) , 22 Jun 2013
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideThis is a film that looks at human relationships from a rather novel point of view. A more comprehensive vision, with a new and very different perspective on the conflict caused by nationalism and war. A pastiche of A Passage to India is used to leave the protagonist in a difficult situation. As the additional layers of complexity accumulate, a seemingly harmless dalliance turns sour, and despite his valiant efforts, no happy ending unfortunately.
Is it my fault?By a customer , 02 May 2013There is impressive direction and photography and, I think, it was a very ambitious and challenging project to undertake. But I found that the characters inspired neither empathy nor anger (which may be a weakness in me rather than the film!!) so overall I found it rather dull.
