I saw this movie yesterday and i liked it.
The acting was great. The scenes, the flashbacks, the faith vs doubt question... all were mixed in a puzzle that could always keep the focus on the story.
I also liked the court settings and the way the story rapresents both sides. your heart always lies with Laura Linney's character but also the prosecutor is given a chance and is very believable.
And throughout all this, the priest gives a feeling of authenticity to the story that makes it even scarier.
A great movie. A must see- Was this review helpful to you?

(463)Scary, but for all the wrong reasons...
By GordonVader (106 reviews) from Emerald City, oz , 10 Jan 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
ok so I have decided in my infinite wisdom to review every single film i have ever seen on love film... Currently still on the letter 'A' Ok so This one is a bit risque... I have to say that personally i can be prone to the odd bit of soap-boxing and this film runs a bit of a tightrope message wise... Seen as a work of fiction, this is an interesting and perhaps engaging little movie. However... and this is a big but... This movie is presented as 'based on a true story' and therefore it's message is actually really scary and not bump in the night scary, but 'how stupid people can be' Scary... Sensational messages hidden in movies worry me, and this is among the worst...Legend has it, in the real story the girl dies during the Exorcism and this film basically exonerates the priests who allegedly put an extremely unwell girl through a harrowing ordeal... Scary, scary Christian propaganda which suggests people who abuse their 'possessed' children are doing the right thing... i am reminded of a recent news story about a mother who killed her child and burned his body because he could not memorise passages from the Koran... Would you enjoy watching that film? Film makers have a responsibility to society not to incite or encourage insanity and well this creepy little political broadcast is as bad as it gets... so a big fat Moral 1 star from me...- Was this review helpful to you?

Middle of the road
By orangeboy (56 reviews) from Cardiff , 09 Sep 2012You could spend weeks on end watching the number of exorcism movies that are now available. Few try anything all that different preferring to rely on the usual tricks to make the audience jump. The truth is, where demonic possession and CGI is concerned, studios should have no excuse in scaring us all silly.
There are limitations here as it is based on truth but still has some good moments. It elevates itself above the crowd with the courtroom scenes and because you always remember this is based on fact.
Good enough to pass the time and you won't feel entirely cheated but no-one has done exorcism better since 1973.- Was this review helpful to you?

Supernatural courtroom
By TheWatchman (490 reviews) from Suburbia , 26 Apr 2012And by supernatural courtroom I dont mean The Exorcism of Emily Rose is like that scene in Ghostbusters II when the two spooks go crazy and have to be zapped before the slime the judge and attorney.
Its apparently based on a true story, but then arent most Hollywood films supposed to be? The real exorcism involved two priests and, although similar, was heavily adapted for the film version.
We meet the teenager, Emily Rose, at the beginning of the film. Shes just died during an exorcism that went wrong. The rest of the film is basically a courtroom drama where the prosecution tries to prove that an exorcism isnt a real science and got in the way of proper medication for the patient. Then you have the flashbacks which showed what really happened during the exorcism.
Of course if the film made it look like demons werent really terrorising the young girl, it would make a dull movie. So, we have to believe that the possession was really happened. However, based on what other people have said about the film, some people see this as Christian propaganda, designed to prove the existence of God and the afterlife etc.
I didnt see it so. I saw it as a kind of modern day take on The Exorcist. Think of it as a horror/thriller, rather something that allegedly happened. If you view it as entertainment as opposed to a recounting of an actual event, then you should enjoy it, as the possession scenes are decently scary enough and the cast all play their parts well.- Was this review helpful to you?
