    [Highly rated reviewer]

At face value this is arty French nudity and sex. But it is deeper than that. Brisseau was convicted after making Choses Secretes when actresses he had screen-tested, asking them to perform sex acts, and I think sometimes asking them to come back for further tests, were not cast in the film and subsequently reported him to the Police. Exterminating Angels can be read as his side of the story. Beautiful but not for the shockable.

Sexual fantasy. French film with sub titles. A middle aged man lets his fantasies run wild and makes a film watching lots of nubile young girls masturbate and voice their hidden desires! There is a surreal and parallel universe twilight zone dimension to the film that is never fully explained. The story ends in tears . It succeeds in being mildly erotic in parts. Watchable adequate film but no more than that.

Exterminating Angels tries to bridge the gaps between soft-core, arthouse and actual narrative, and succeeds to a certain extent. However it soon turns out that being 'fascinated by women's illicit fantasies' means girls getting each other off while the charming but apparently eternally baffled director watches. The film does do sensuality well, but there are some jarring elements (the soundtrack?) and unexplained gaps in the story (his wife's reaction at the end and why we are supposed to believe he didn't notice the girl was in love with him). The 'fallen angels' element was completely unnecessary, but didn't do any harm. The inclusion of the WWII-style radio messages is an atmospheric but cryptic touch. The film moves along relatively swiftly and it does handle the subject fairly coherently, although there are moments when the suspension of your disbelief will seem near breaking point. Fans of Buffy may also notice the frankly alarming similarity between the director and Rupert Giles, librarian and Vampire Slayer's Watcher. Personally, I found it helped. Marginally.

Absolutely execrable. Avoid at all costs. Not really erotic: more just pretentious and boring. I put it on fast forward to get to the end as soon as possible

This is a truly fantastic film, excellent photography, great cinematography, well-directed with truly great actors all of which are very beautiful. Its one of those films that keep you entertained from beginning to end.. its in French, and shot in some lovely locations all adding to the eroticism of the film.. Its intensely erotic at times... its about a film director who wants to reveal the sexual taboos of women.. which is watched over by 2 fallen angels.. In all honesty the film would have been as excellent without the fallen angels in the script.. some magnificent poetic overtones in the film to.. its not as dark as the title may suggest... at first I thought it may be a film based a vampires, but its far from that, simply put, its about lesbians and it is all very well-made and tasteful so why the need for fallen angels is beyond me, because the director of the film never stops been professional with the ladies he meets nor takes advantage of the women in a sexual way.... there are some lovely romantic moments in the film to... Its one of the best world cinema films I have seen in a while.. and is well-worth watching.

  • Babes 'playing' with themselves and each other!

Just like Brisseau's 'Les Choses Secretes' he does like filming nude sensual women masturbating and I have to say so believable it makes you wonder if they're actually faking, seriously! ...... :)) also the three females touching stroking and pleasuring their naked bodies (beautiful they are to) is very erotic and sensual 'stuff', quite a turn on in fact, but I have to warn you this is much of the movie.

Don't get me wrong there is a story it's not tooo complicated and does make sense by the end but it's all a bit 'silly?':))

I always like to compare the 'official' description with the actual movie and it's pretty spot on however Francois's 'Directorial fascination' is a bit more like voyeurism rather than serious research.

Summing up not as good as 'Les Choses Secretes'.
