Festive feelgood..
By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 13 Oct 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a wonderful dream of a movie that just soaks you in and blankets you with warmth. It is one of those very special treats that just makes you feel all warm.. and..oh yes... It will make you cry.. even if you are a 6ft 6 ark welder from Hull. You have been warned, watch it at your own risk with your kleenex.. but just watch it..- Was this review helpful to you?

(357)don't know what i'm watching...?
By Mrs R Lupin from Cambridge, UK , 09 Dec 2006I thought the trailer looked good (and i was desperately missing sex in the city)! I generally don't watch sloppy romantic comedies much, but occasionally i get a craving for them-something heart warming that you don't have to analyse :)
This film was, however, just...bizarre. I couldn't work out-and still can't-whether it was a romantic comedy, family, drama...nothing really...happened? Maybe it was just a comedy that i didn't get...at all.
I also love Diane Keaton, but she just got a bit annoying. I waited through the film for the big 'Ahhh...'...but it didn't come...just the credits!
I'd watch it again on tv, to see if it gets better the second time round, but NOT rent it out.- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprisingly enjoyable
By Zena from London , 06 Dec 2006I thought this would be a comedy as I hate hate hate watching trailers. However was happy to discover that although there were some amusing moments it was a surprisingly sad and touching story. Don't get me wrong it was very predictable and it was very obvious what was going to happen - HOWEVER for a light entertainment night in, that wasn't too cheesily cheery and happy it was a really good film. Perhaps I'm getting soft in my old age but I would definately recommend this for a pleasant and thought provoking night in.
Ignore the bad reviews and take it as it is - light entertainment with a little added depth & ENJOY!- Was this review helpful to you?

if you want to see corn...
By a customer from london, united kingdom , 06 Dec 2006...this movie is for you but otherwise don't bother. it's so unashameably corny that it beggers belief and not funny enough to make it bearable.- Was this review helpful to you?

Achingly liberal comedy without the laughs
By a customer from London, UK , 30 Nov 2006So achingly liberal and PC is this comedy, it is all rather sickening. It is also not much a comedy - lurching wildly between weepie melodrama in the mode of Beaches across to Carrey-esque slapstick if Carrey-esque slapstick was done by middle-aged women.
Sarah Jessica Parker gives a performance to despise (although I assume that was the point) and Dermot Mulroney spends the film with a facial expression like he has a particularly pungent turd resting on his top lip. Diane Keaton gives an incredibly warm performance and Rachel McAdams is suitably bitchy as the 'evil' sister.
Despite its failings, this film wasn't totally horrible and that is something of an surprise. This is a film which will have its market in sad, lonely, depressed middle aged women and smug couples where the women wear the trousers.- Was this review helpful to you?
