THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS is a nitro-burning joyride that makes outstanding use of special effects, innovative camera work, and a nonstop throbbing soundtrack. From the opening sequence--a high-speed, high-tech truck robbery--the film never drops below the red line. Roaring along at breakneck speed, Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew meet on the streets of L.A. each night to show off their high-powered racers. When new guy Brian (Paul Walker) wants to add his fuel to the fire, he can't cough up the cash to race, but offers up his car as collateral. In their tiny jacked compacts, Dom, Brian, and Edwin (Ja Rule) burst into a high-gear race with Brian nearly beating perennial champion Dom. But in the final moments, he loses the race and his car. Brian's debt is quickly cleared, however, when he saves Dom both from the cops and from a potentially violent encounter with Johnny Tran (Rick Yune), a rival gang lord. Dom takes Brian under his wing--a decision that disgusts his gang but delights his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). The gang never suspects that Brian is not who he seems: he is actually an undercover cop, and though he wishes otherwise, he's there to bust Dom for committing the armed truck robbery witnessed in the opening scenes.

"...It's a rare treat to see actual heavy metal flip out of control and go crunch....It captures the late-night adrenaline rush of an underground sport that requires beating the law as well as your opponents..."
"...Gritty and gratifying....A really good exploitationer....An attractive cast led by an imposing Van Diesel keeps the personal scenes quite watchable..."
The Fast and the Furious is an unintelligent, uninspired movie. Need for Speed was a rip-off, considering the plot was exactly the same as point break - but at least it was watchable. The first film contrasted the vulnerability of Paul Walker, (aka Keanu Reeves), against the world weariness of Vin Diesel, (aka Patrick Swayze). This held that first movie together. But in this movie Paul Walker is no longer vulnerable - but more the veritable showoff. Even though I watched this movie on a 34 hour Airplane flight to Australia in which I was deprived of conversation, food, books, radio, cross-word puzzles, and everything else (and going a little stir crazy) -- I must confess, I still couldn't watch this film to the end, to save my life. However, I had five chances and watched the movie piece by piece, cringing the entire way. The say that this film slightly misses the mark with its portrayal of what is cool and what is hip; is like saying your dad listening to Blink182, wearing a baseball cap, and cracking onto your girlfriend slightly misses the mark. I'd love to vomit on the producer.
Ok so this film isn't going to win any prizes for plot, dialogue or acting, but you have to admit it has a cool cast of characters and even cooler cast of cars. Great race scenes blended with good action sequences make this a must-see for fans of souped-up metal and rubber. Cars, guns & girls - what more do you want?
How fast and furious is Fast and Furious? Too fast and furious to waste time quantifying, that’s for sure. If we’re keeping count, this would be MKIV, though it’s the first sequel to recall the stars of the original 2001 hit, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez (Paul Walker made it to 2 Fast 2 Furious). Sadly, the Big Vin’s presence is more likely symptomatic of his stalled career ambitions than his high regard for this particular script – assuming Read more
