THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS is a nitro-burning joyride that makes outstanding use of special effects, innovative camera work, and a nonstop throbbing soundtrack. From the opening sequence--a high-speed, high-tech truck robbery--the film never drops below the red line. Roaring along at breakneck speed, Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew .. Read more

"...It's a rare treat to see actual heavy metal flip out of control and go crunch....It captures the late-night adrenaline rush of an underground sport that requires beating the law as well as your opponents..."
"...Gritty and gratifying....A really good exploitationer....An attractive cast led by an imposing Van Diesel keeps the personal scenes quite watchable..."
Enjoyably old-fashioned exploitation flick, one that lives up to its title and makes the most of obsessions with fast cars and macho attitudes.
The Fast and the Furious is an unintelligent, uninspired movie. Need for Speed was a rip-off, considering the plot was exactly the same as point break - but at least it was watchable. The first film contrasted the vulnerability of Paul Walker, (aka Keanu Reeves), against the world weariness of Vin Diesel, (aka Patrick Swayze). This held that first movie together. But in this movie Paul Walker is no longer vulnerable - but more the veritable showoff. Even though I watched this movie on a 34 hour Airplane flight to Australia in which I was deprived of conversation, food, books, radio, cross-word puzzles, and everything else (and going a little stir crazy) -- I must confess, I still couldn't watch this film to the end, to save my life. However, I had five chances and watched the movie piece by piece, cringing the entire way. The say that this film slightly misses the mark with its portrayal of what is cool and what is hip; is like saying your dad listening to Blink182, wearing a baseball cap, and cracking onto your girlfriend slightly misses the mark. I'd love to vomit on the producer.
Ok so this film isn't going to win any prizes for plot, dialogue or acting, but you have to admit it has a cool cast of characters and even cooler cast of cars. Great race scenes blended with good action sequences make this a must-see for fans of souped-up metal and rubber. Cars, guns & girls - what more do you want?
Its taken me ages to get round to watching this but it was worth the wait.
Not a very strong plot and certainly not a new one but still a good watch if only for the fast cars and chase scenes.
Special features gives an insight to the real world of street racing which is interesting as well.

Excellent film, great actors - be prepared for some serious drooling. Gorgeous cars, gorgeous guys!

Why do po-faced wannabe critics even bother renting movies like this? The fast and the Furious is exactly what you would expect - silly and unbelievable story, moderate acting and extreme action. It's actually entertaining if you don't start by expecting something too serious.
I had watched 2 Fast 2 Furious first not realising it was part of a series.
This movie was very disappointing. I was 30 minutes into the film before the plot even attempts to make an appearance. Story line is very weak, and seems to be missing an ending.
Absolutely no DVD extra's - very disappointing.
To anyone out there that says that the film is no good because of a thin plot, look at the cars!!!
Ok the film is a bit lacking in the story department, but if you want something deep and meaningful go and watch an art house film.
A film like this doesn't need to rely on plot as much, due to its edge of the seat action sequences. The direction is fantastic, with exciting camera angles which make the cars and races look even cooler especially on DVD.
After watching this film, you may not be emotionaly changed or inspired, but you will sell your grandmother for a Supra.
Despite covering familiar territory this is a movie to enjoy if you're not in the mood for anything too intense. There are some great driving scenes, a pumping soundtrack, plenty of shiny fast cars and plenty of girls. Somewhere under all this is a plot about hijacked lorries. This is being investigated by an undercover cop who bonds with his street-racing buddies and finds his loyalties torn between his mission and his pals. In fact this is almost a retread of Point Break - substitute cars for surfing and you're there, but it's no less enjoyable for it.
The very cheesy dialogue is forgiven in this movie as all the car action is, well er...Fast and Furious I guess;-)
Vin Diesel smoulders and looks really hard for most of the film (and quite dishy) and the fantastic motors are all very impressive, even if the technical termimolgy leaves me wondering if I actually know anything about cars at all.
Plenty of nitro oxide pumped up action, short skirts and women who can drive, which is always a plus:-)
Looking forward to seeing the sequel now!

Unless you are a 13 year old boy this is awful. I love action movies and I love car chases in movies but this is lacking in every department, truly abysmal.
