It's hard to believe the co-creator of Yes, Minister was the optimum choice for this comedy about a Deep South gospel choir. Yet even if Jonathan Lynn is au fait with the milieu, he's rarely in control of the tone or pacing of this messy amalgam of African-American social attitudes and musical tastes. Cuba Gooding Jr clowns to excess as the cynical ad executive determined to galvanise the choristers at his aunt's church in order to inherit her fortune. But the diverse singing styles of Melba Moore, T-Bone and Beyoncé Knowles, and a feisty turn from LaTanya Richardson, provide some compensation.
Not even some impassioned vocals can save this sickly entertainment, with its banal narrative and a frenetically tiresome performance from Gooding.

I wasn't quite sure if I was going to like this film or not but I did. The film is a little over 2 hours long but certainly didn't feel like it. For me, you don't see or hear enough Beyonce singing in the church or solo.
Music - Tracks include Beyonce's 'Fever' and believe it or not 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' - never knew Beyonce liked rugby!
T-Bone raps in the film on the 'Down by the riverside' track, again an interesting variation on a theme.
The movie I would say is fairly predictable (although there are a couple of twists!), there's the resident evil person that appears in any moralistic family film and cuba Gooding who really seemed to get into the roll - you'll see what I mean later in the film!
I would recommend this movie - a good feeling movie with an interesting music soundtrack.
IT WAS GREAT.
I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE ANOTHER SISTER ACT BUT IT SURPRISED ME.
THE MUSIC WAS FANTASTIC, I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE SINGERS
ESPECIALLY MELBA MOORE. HER VOICE WAS QUALITY.
I AM NOW GOING OUT TO BY THE SOUNDTRACK, I LIKED IT SO MUCH.
Average at best, and rather drawn out until we slip in into the expected Cuba does the right thing and becomes a hero bit starts.
The movie would've scored 2 stars (and may not have survived viewing until the end) were it not for the actual choir singing pieces which are both sonically/visually entertaining.
On the Cuba scale of things this is as good as Rat Run and not as bad as Snowdogs.
Are Betfair offering a book where I can lay against that 2nd Oscar?
I rated this movie a 7. It is not so much the storyline as that was fairly predictable. It is due to:
a) what I would describe as the "happiness factor" this movie gave me and my friends as we watched it;
b) the cast - I mean Cuba Gooding, Beyonce, Angie Stone, Faith Evans, Montell Jordan - what more would one want in a romantic comedy with a touch of gospel and R'n'B?
c) the soundtrack - It was really good and the audience would easily get into it.
By the end of the film we were sweaty from dancing (we danced for over half of the film) and laughing as the funny parts were truly funny.
There was also a teeny weeny twist towards the end.
I highly recommend this movie.

EXCELLENT !!! This film was funny and the music had me dancing around the room. I was never really a Cuba Gooding Junior fan and i never thought Beyonce could act (not after watching 'Carmen Jones' and 'Goldmember' but she was actually quite good.
Expected another Sister Act, but much better, with some very funny moments. Singing is terrific, especially the choir at the end, and Beyonce - who has never particularly interested me - had a great voice. Pretty cheesy plot, and don't watch if you want highbrow stuff! But worth watching the end credits for Cuba Gooding breakdancing - had no idea he was so talented!!
A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
Well what can I say, this film captivated and inspired. All singing all dancing! well not quite dancing, but very exciting to watch...the choir were real and engimatic, top that with comedy and a little romance, what more could you ask for in a film. Beyonce was much more than I expected, I thought this may be another 'look at me' type film that singers sometimes do...but no, she portrayed her very character well. Cuba Gooding jr displayed excitement and a certain freshness which worked well alongside Beyonce. I would thoroughly recommend this film for those who love music and the 'sister act' feel good factor!
The Fighting Temptations is a musical, a comedy, and a love story. Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Darrin Hill, an ad junior executive who is trying to make it big in New York City and a corner office. He finally makes a big ad pitch & is on his way up the corporate ladder; unfortunately, he is fired for misrepresenting his Yale education.
He receives a letter informing him that his Aunt Sally has died in his hometown of Monte Carlo, Georgia. As Sally's only living relative, Darrin receives an inheritance of stock worth $150,000. And to get the money, Darrin must fulfil her last wish, which is to form a gospel choir for the Beulah Baptist Church and take it to the annual Gospel Explosion competition. Darrin tells the preacher that he is a music producer in New York City, and he can build a great choir.
There is only one problem, everybody who comes in for auditions are really bad singers. Darrin needs a miracle if he has any chance at all. Then Darrin finds Lilly, who is a beautiful nightclub singer with the voice of an angel played by Beyonce Knowles. He finds other singers at the barbershop and the prison. After putting together a beautiful sounding choir, Darrin is now ready for the competition.
You will definitely tap your foot almost the whole time during the movie. This is a very enjoyable and happy movie that is good for the whole family.

Really loved this one, full of great songs, left us dancing around the living room after.
Cheesy, formulaic, yet somehow feelgood fillum, not my usual bag but if you don't expect too much you'll be ok
