A rare treatment of this WW2 period
By Dungbeetle (503 reviews) from London , 23 Feb 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
German Italian film with subtitles. An interesting tale of the last days of WW2 set in 1945 northern Italy where Fascist Italians and Germans prepare to fight the Allies while fending off local italian partisans. Based on soldiers letters the underlying theme is uncertainty and hunger. The attitudes between the Axis countries are well drawn and the conflict with locals also. Budget limits restrict large scale battles but are effective none the less for that.- Was this review helpful to you?
