The Flamingo Kid
By a customer from Old Street, London, England , 13 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
With so much pure rubbish or mediocrity in the shape of new dvds releases why not venture back to revist some of those almost forgotten gems of the past? If you have seen the Flamingo King before and liked it or are totally unaware of the film's existence there are defintely a lot worser ways of willing away a couple of hours then watching this enjoyable film.
The Flamingo Kid provides a perfect vehicle for Matt Dillon to shine in. Dillon shows in the film some of his best work since his early performance in The Outsiders.
The story revolves around Dillon, a bored teenager living in a uninspiring part of Brooklyn, who gets the opportunity to work at an exclusive beach club for the summer. The film perfectly captures how an average kid from Brooklyn is enticed by the prospect of money, glamour and the excitement of moving in very different social circles from what he is used to. The relationship between Dillon and his father ads a poignant aspect to the film's generally amusing and feel good proceedings.
The Flamingo Kid is a throughly entertaining light hearted film which I would definitely recommend.- Was this review helpful to you?

Matt Dillon at his best - feelgood movie
By Christopher Curtis from Farnham , 24 May 2006With the use of bright colours and constant sunshine this movie is one of my favourite feelgood movies. If you are in need of a pick me up, then Matt Dillon as a working class kid working at a swanky beach club for the summer will do the job. If you do not have a cheesy grin at the end of this film then you are a lost cause....- Was this review helpful to you?

Great
By baznorma from kent , 10 Feb 2004In the vein of "Dirty Dancing", this feel good nostalgic light comedy is very likable and a ray of Long Island sunshine on a grey Kent winter's day.
Interesting to watch alongside "The Outsiders" and "Rumblefish" for early display of Matt Dillon's versatility.- Was this review helpful to you?
