Quite disturbing yet not as good as it could have been

This movie did disturb me - the story are about a really disturbing issue.

Most of the viewers complain the movie had a very bad pace, to few twist turns. I both agreed and disagreed here, yes when watching the movie you know who's 'dunnit' way to early but I loved the pace. In my eyes they really made time to make you loath the bad guys and feel repulsed by the idea what they did to those poor girls.

Richard gere was holding back a little too much, but I often find he's perfect for these roles. Maybe he did not put of a good performance, but he was just made for the role. Claire Danes didn't impress me in this movie. You kind of get the idea they used her for eye candy above everything else.

The first 80 minutes of the movie were quite decent in my eyes but the last 20 minutes were a bit of a disappointment. They seemed to be a bit over the top.

    Still I wouldn't liked missed it !!!

    Excellent

This was an excellent film, though a very disturbing subject. The acting was superb and was glued to the set through the whole movie.

    decent but no WOW factor

Richard Gere and Clare Daines play there parts well, however the plot seems to drift along, not really capturing your attention. Overall Its a dependable thriller, which follows the tried and tested styles of previous titles, such as Seven for example, but don't expect to be blown away with an exciting twist, because there isn't one. Only really suitable for viewing on a cold wet winters day when you have nothing better to do in-between your next blockbuster. 3/5 at best.

    2.5 stars actually

For the true cinephiles amongst us, a warning: this rental DVD has been cropped from 2.35:1 to 16:9 for some reason. Some scenes get away with it, but some key dialogue scenes are shot with the characters framed extreme camera left and right, and it's a total distraction.

Fair enough TV broadcasts catering for the average audience who couldn't care less how carefully the director and DoP framed each and every shot, but on DVD format there is no excuse.

As for the film itself: yeah, it's a 2.5. There's nothing new here, and it's peppered by those annoying supposedly-trendy post-production camera jitters directors hoy in to keep the audience 'on edge'.

Not that it doesn't work as a fairly mindless thriller mind you, but surely this sort of subject matter deserves better treatment.

    UTTER RUBBISH

The worst film i've seen this year, SLOW is the key word here, this film is slower than two snails cruising in slow motion. I was bored to death, by the time the supposedly exciting bit 'the climax' arrived I've been flat lined for an hour and more and couldn't give a toss.

Only bit that made me sit up and take noticed was a cameo by Avril Lavigne.

    Outstanding but very disturbing

Richard Gere is excellent & plays the character perfectly, with a superb (but scary!) supporting cast. Not one to watch with the evening meal as the material is very disturbing. Grips from beginning to end, a must watch movie
