Original Fly is still a cut above the eighties remake!
By Oliver Scott from UK, Yorkshire , 23 Nov 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Jeff Goldblum gave us a gory rendition of the fly in the late eighties but it failed in my humble opinion to beat the 1958 Vincent Price original. Yes, the original is dated in both acting, and overall style but it still posseses an ability to scare, that seems long lost on todays modern horror movies. Where Goldblum began to slowly dissintergrate into mush. the original gave its scientist the head and hands of a fly and transposed the human appendages to the tiny fly. Just the thought of a fly buzzing round the house with a human head and arm gives me the shivers every time. The finale is just the best horror movie ending ever! A must watch old classic!- Was this review helpful to you?

Still worthy of the title "classic"
By wikkidsmyle (438 reviews) from Newmarket , 27 Sep 2008David Cronenberg is to be given credit for keeping this film alive with his mastery remake. Although the effects now are pretty lame and some of the moralising is a tad boring, there's no getting away from the lump in the throat as we see Andre's experiment goes hideously wrong and his realisation that he must kill himself and his reliance upon his devoted wife to deliver the coup de gras. Of course, the ending will always be remembered...- Was this review helpful to you?
