Apparently Germans were making synthetic fuel out of coal in 1944-5 in large quantities and then Americans bought it so that to have excuses for charging arm and leg for gas and go to war in Middle East every now and then. Some of the main actors make it look like they are old enough to have been in WW2 as adults. Long at almost 2 hours paying hommage to 'cynical seventies'. And the formula is called Genesis. Otherwise fairly standard murder mystery thriller.
