A vampire yarn for the slacker generation — with nods to 1980s chillers Near Dark and The Hitcher — sees hapless film editor Kerr Smith (Dawson's Creek) on a long-distance drive to Florida. Having picked up hitch-hiker Brendan Fehr — who just happens to be a vampire slayer — Smith then falls into the clutches of a vanload of young bloodsuckers who roam the highways and byways of America's southwest. When our hero is himself infected with the vampire virus, he must go after their leader before he too becomes a bone fide nosferatu. Johnathon Schaech as the black clad boss vamp with killer cheekbones provides some much needed charisma, but his efforts are largely wasted on material that has straight-to-video stamped all over it. A few chills, but for something meatier you'd be better off digging out that copy of Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark, which treads much the same territory, only with considerably more style and originality.
"...A loud, snapping horror flick in which supernatural forces have their way....THE FORSAKEN packs the bite. Here foolish, ghoulish shenanigans can be bloody good fun..."
This film was actually ok. I wasn't sure what to expect and was a little dubious after reading some reviews on it, but I have to agree with the reviews on this site and say that it is slick, stylish and a bit different. This is definitely a modern take on vampire movies with very little sign of fangs and some of the more traditional stuff, but nevertheless I found it quite entertaining and there is enough bloodshed to keep most fans of vampire/horror movies happy to watch it through.
The Forsaken is fast, mostly action packed film which doesnt require you to think, just to assorb the action. The likeable cast are pretty good particulary its two charismatic leads Kerr Smith and Brandon Fehr, who may not be stars in the future but can certainly add a thing or two to the story. There is some good tension building here and the film is slick, not overly violent and stupidly smart. Check it out
