Brendan Fehr and Kerr Smith make a good team in this very modern take on the vampire flick. A road movie heavy on the gore and not at all Anne Rice gothic, so the vamps aren't in any way tortured or troubled by the necessity to eat humans to survive. Indeed they relish the kill and some scenes are pretty graphic. The Big Daddy vamp however is definitely in the Lestat/Dracula line of seductive monsters, incredibly sexy and darkly alluring. The scenes I enjoyed most featured him and the two young hunters out to get him, hitchhiker Fehr and the easygoing guy who picks him up on his way across the US to deliver a car to a client and take in his sister's wedding in Florida. A game of cat and mouse ensues as tired vampire mythology gets a modern make-over in a way that's very good indeed. Nice to see Carrie Snodgress again.
