In this near-perfect suspense movie adapted from the popular 1960s television series that starred David Janssen, renowned vascular surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford - RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, Roman Polanski's FRANTIC) has been falsely accused and convicted--on circumstantial evidence--of his wife's (Sela Ward) murder. While Kimble is being transported to prison, another convict stabs an inattentive guard, causing a massive wreck. Kimble escapes but is hunted by tough U.S. marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones - in an Oscar Winning role). The fugitive from injustice attempts to set the record straight: He transforms himself into a jack-of-all-trades and a man of a thousand faces in a desperate attempt to uncover the truth about his wife's murder and track down the real killer. Spectacular special effects and a pulse-pounding performance by Ford turned Andrew Davis's thrilling film into a blockbuster at the box office, leading to a sequel, U.S. MARSHALS.

The tentative pilot for a possible series, this above-average TV movie was written and produced by Joseph Wambaugh, the Los Angeles cop-turned-author who came to the notice of cinema audiences as the screenwriter of 1979's The Onion Field. His authorial presence lends gravitas to an otherwise fairly routine up-market/down-market mismatched cop scenario, as Palm Springs detective Teri Garr and hard-drinking Sam Elliott team up to track down a mysterious fugitive before the bad guys get there first. The leads both deliver their usual solid performances, but the whole is somewhat unadventurous.
"...A giant toy-train entertainment with all stops pulled out. A consummate nail-biter that never lags, it leaves you breathless from the chase yet anxious for the next bit of mayhem or clever plot twist..."
If Harrison Ford owned this film, he wouldn't waste his time looking for the one-armed man as he would be glued to the screen! Absolutely first-class performances from mssrs Ford & Lee-Jones. Even though you know how it ends (well, most do,) you remain fixed with the story throughout. A definate must for any film lovers collection!
Watching this movie for the first time in a good few years I forgot how good it was. As good as Harrison Ford was in Star Wars his acting is less card board shall we say and the fugative for me re launched Ford into a whole new generation of cinema.
The film has a captivating story line and keeps you on the edge of your seat right untill the end. If you haven't seen it before, then why not????? go out and watch it! If you have seen it before watch it again to remind yourself how good it was.
Superb movie!
The iconic 80s soap Dallas could be made into a major new film. Rumours suggest that moviemakers are keen to build on the success of small screen to big screen transitions like The Saint, The Fugitive and Charlie's Angels. And it would appear that talk of a Dallas movie has got all the big names interested. Brad Pitt, who is still basking in the glow of Greek epic Troy, has emerged as an early favourite to get the lead role as JR Ewing. However, Pitt may have to fight it out with Ocean's Eleven Read more
