  • If that was a Se7en, this is an Ei8ht!

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Perhaps a superior offering from Se7en's director David Fincher. More entertaining anyway and far less predictable. One of Michael Douglas' two best performances, the other being in Joel Schumacher's Falling Down.

  • An incredible ROLLECOASTER RIDE, FROM BEGINNING TO END. DOUGLAS is spot on!

This is incredible! that I had never watched this movie before is beyond me. Why? This is the kind of movie that gives your heart rate a kick, your stress levels will go right up, and who better than Douglas to play the frustrated paranoid soul (like in Falling Down)? The less you know the better, take my word for it, you will be on the edge of your seat all the way till it ends. This is a word of mouth cult movie and now rates as one of my favourite films of all time. Rent it and watch it on a big screen like I did and let yourself go. Fincher, my hat to you and to the writers of this mad story!

  • Plenty of Action & Intrigue - Just Too Far-Fetched

    Rated - 3.5 stars

My favourite ingredient for an enjoyable film is intrigue, one that keeps you guessing (without being too complicated) and this film scored highly from that perspective and so overall was enjoyable.

My main issue with this movie is that it is so so implausible, that a company would go that far to organise such an elaborate and dangerous 'game', particularly driving a taxi into water with someone locked inside. I'd shudder to think of the supposed cost and staging such an event and with so many people employed - as if anyone could afford it. It also relies on a great many coincidences, on the subject doing exactly what is expected time after time, especially the ending.

It is by no means the only movie that is extremely far-fetched of course, but it did very much put me off on this occasion. It was very reminiscent of the naff Seventies TV programme Fantasy Island, which I didn't like for the same reasons as the whole concept was just so implausible.

  • Game on!

Thriller. A successful businessman has his life taken over by a deranged agency with devastating consequences. This occurs supposedly as the result of a gift from his brother and is meant to be fun but instead is extremely sinister. The plot has no credibility at all and is increasingly preposterous as the fil progresses. Having said that Michael Douglas’s brilliance keeps the film highly entertaining and impossible to turn off. It is definitely watchable and so extreme that the film does have a riveting excitement where you wonder just what will happen next.

  • Loved it!

..... however there's such a good twist to the 'tale' that you'll never be able to watch it twice. The Game's stylish, woven around a great idea for a plot and it's a film that suits the angry bitter brooding Michael Douglas really well ..... just think 'Wall Street'.

I though this film would be more of a horror (Which I'm not a massive fan of) but I was very wrong... It's a deep thriller with twist after twist... Great film and makes you really wonder throughout what is really going on... Must watch if you like films such as Se7en!
