A blatant rip-off of Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol'. Instead of Scrooge the miser, you have Matthew McConaughey the self-centred womaniser. Instead of the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, you have ghosts of girlfriends past, present and future. I suppose the brother and his wedding, that McConaughey screws up, is in place of the down-trodden Cratchit family.
There are a few points in the film where a slightly amusing instance occurs, like the wedding cake and the little boy digging snow beneath the window, who is asked 'Is today Christmas?' to which he replies 'No it's Saturday you moron!'
To sum up, a very poor chick-flick/rom-com, with little to offer in originality and laughs.
I think moronic sums it up, just as the little boy said!!!!
Although this film is a typical chick flick its one with a difference. Based upon Dickens A Christmas Carol the hero is made to see the error of his ways, resulting in, yes you guessed it - a happy ending. Whilst it may not be the most original plot this film is worth a look, especially on a miserable sunday afternoon when the weather is its usual miserable self. Definately has that feel good factor and offers an interesting take on Scrooge.
If it weren't for the pre-marital sex, you'd think this was Vatican-sponsored pro-marriage propaganda. As it is, it is humourless tripe: preachy without being enlightening, male-bashing without being perspicacious. The film reduces women to clingy, marriage-hunting harridans and men to loutish brutes defined only by libidinous cunning; those sly enough to dodge the marriage trap and the foolish others.
Garner's character is needy without redemption; McConaughey's character is supposedly despicable, yet provides what little charm the film manages to muster, and if they get any red-blooded male to believe that spooning is better than a boat-load of stunning models, you can call me a monkey's uncle!

Pretty funny in parts. i think lasses would prob like this better than lads though, the storyline seems abit girlie. Seemed to be abit corney being based around a christmas carol but hey its worth a watch!

Superficialy a trrite pastiche of Dicken's Xmas Carol.
But stick with it. It is saved by being genuinely funny & being able to joke at its own expense.
An uplifting way to spend one and a half hours.
Possibly one of the worst movies ive ever watched!
really enjoyed this film with a few friends and a bottle of wine and chinese, we had a good laugh.
Very funny well worth a watch....

Having just joined I was really looking forward to watching my first film.
What a disappointment, this film was boring, boring boring! I watched about 40 minutes hoping it would get better but it was not to be.
It wasn,t funny either!
This was a case of easy money for the actors involved.
Rubbish story, not in the slightest bit funny, completely predictable. All in all, pretty terrible and i love rom-coms.
