Hard edged shockerBy Whipster (663 reviews) from Shropshire , 30 Dec 2008

[Highly rated reviewer]This is a truly horrific movie that deals 'head-on' with child abuse and which is based loosely on a true story (that of 16 year old Sylvia Likens) and that Jack Ketchum fictionalised as a horror novel. Taken in by their Aunt, who is obviously mentally disturbed, two young sisters become the victims of her sadistic games. The older sister endures increasingly severe cruelties until she finally dies. What makes this all the more incredible (remembering that this is based on fact) is that the woman encouraged her own childern to participate in the girl's torture and also included the local neighbourhood children. It all becomes a 'game' in the movie, as it apparently did in real life. This is a difficult movie to watch in many ways but the young cast do an amazing job in bringing the story to life. The main lead 'Meg' is exceptionally good in a role that must have tested her to the limits. Very hard edged and seriously shocking 'real' horror.

Very disturbing but brilliantly portrayedBy a customer , 18 Oct 2013Very well portrayed of the book thats based on the true story of the murder of Sylvia Likens in Indiana 1965. It's really horrible that she was tortured so terribly and it's even worse that things like that still happen even now! The acting is good and very dramatic. But I am rather uncomfortable having watched it but it is a good film nonetheless.
Too true, too realistic. Quite disturbing.By WiggyStardust (11 reviews) , 07 Oct 2013Having not read the blurb I was expecting a slasher/horror film... this isn't one. Heartbreakingly, it's based on a true story. It's really well acted by all the children and the main villainess but ultimately I wished I hadn't seen it. The content is harrowing, the escalation of violence and abuse is awful and inhumane. Genuinely shocking. I'm not squeamish or a prude but I wish I could unwatch this.
a stupid film that should not have been madeBy LoveZombieFilms (43 reviews) from Hartlepool , 07 Oct 2013This is a film that should never have been made. What does this film say about US the viewing public for watching it? Child abuse from start to finish........and I don't mean getting sent to bed without a meal........How can people be allowed to make money from the real true story's of children who these things do happen to for real.......DISGUSTING.....

Girl next doorBy Tiddier (1 review) , 06 Oct 2013Can't believe a woman could do this to a young girl. I thought it was shocking. So sad. Couldn't believe it was a true story.
Shocking film, amazing actorsBy a customer , 04 Oct 2013I thought it was done exceptionally well, however it has scarred me for a long time! It was shocking, brutal and made me uncomfortable to watch at times - made even worse that its a true story. The actors and actresses were absolutely incredible.
