Hard edged shockerBy Whipster (663 reviews) from Shropshire , 30 Dec 2008

[Highly rated reviewer]This is a truly horrific movie that deals 'head-on' with child abuse and which is based loosely on a true story (that of 16 year old Sylvia Likens) and that Jack Ketchum fictionalised as a horror novel. Taken in by their Aunt, who is obviously mentally disturbed, two young sisters become the victims of her sadistic games. The older sister endures increasingly severe cruelties until she finally dies. What makes this all the more incredible (remembering that this is based on fact) is that the woman encouraged her own childern to participate in the girl's torture and also included the local neighbourhood children. It all becomes a 'game' in the movie, as it apparently did in real life. This is a difficult movie to watch in many ways but the young cast do an amazing job in bringing the story to life. The main lead 'Meg' is exceptionally good in a role that must have tested her to the limits. Very hard edged and seriously shocking 'real' horror.

Sad and shocking but this sort of stuff does go onBy a customer , 10 Aug 2013Shocking to say this is a true story that people could actually be so sick and torture a poor young girl like that, but it does go on in real life and this film shows that. A very sad story and the poor lad tried to do all he could to help the girl too.
Hard To Watch Certain Scenes.By a customer , 09 Aug 2013Upsetting and deeply disturbing film, very brutal. Well made and cast with good actors, the ending has some hope to it. Beware if you're easily upset or squeamish as certain scenes are very nasty and sickening to watch.

I love horror movies and have seen some pretty blood thirsty stuff but this one was just horrible to watch. It's a terrible thing to watch a young girl tied up, beaten, raped and tortured. I only watched it to the end hoping that she would get away and her tormentors would get everything they deserved. I really struggled to get through this movie, anybody with a conscience would.
plz help...By a customer , 31 Jul 2013i personal watch movies based on fact, this one torn at my heartstrings, ok the acting was not great but what happened in this movie needed to be told......
