Better than the Swedish original.Good film of a good previous film and great book
By roncoach (369 reviews) from suffolk , 06 Jun 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Not a classic, but very good indeed.
They said David Fincher could not better the Swedish version. IMHO he has done so. And he has remained true to the book trilogy.
Daniel Craig plays his part well, big-name co-stars all do well; but Rooney Mara steals the show with an unforgettable performance.
Retaining all its original Swedish flavour and scenery, this film is way above the average for movies at this time.- Was this review helpful to you?

(266)stay clear of remakes...
By ratbikeboy (4 reviews) , 22 Mar 2013Why watch this when the original is 100% better, the only thing that stops this from a no star rating was the music by Trent Reznor and Rooney Mara was superb....just watch the original trilogy its a masterpiece comparted to this remake for stupid Americans who can't read subtitles...- Was this review helpful to you?

See the swedish original
By J3wly (2 reviews) , 19 Mar 2013Have already seen the original which I thought was much better. This film didn't capture the atmosphere quite as well as the first and the casting seemed a bit off. If you've not seen the original you would probably find it better than I did.- Was this review helpful to you?

Loud background music.
By a customer , 18 Mar 2013The music in the film is far too loud and makes it very hard to hear the dialogue at times.- Was this review helpful to you?

Violent sexual scenes, but a well made film.
By a customer , 14 Mar 2013This film is pretty deep and harrowing. For me it was the vividly portrayed violent sexual scenes that I find upsetting in any film until I have to stop watching. I chose to continue this film and fast forward past such scenes as I was really gripped with where the story was going. Typically (perhaps) a woman would be more upset by these things than a man, but I am a 33yr old male and I am easily affected by such violence. I am glad I watched it through as it is a good film. Daniel is good as usual, playing a casual guy who knows what he wants from his career. Rooney, who I have not seen in anything else was brilliant in handling the sexual scenes. She plays a mysterious character brilliantly well. The storyline I found a bit hard to follow once or twice, but that may just me being slow (I didn't get it when hearing the boy say he saw dead people and that the character played by Bruce Willis was dead, in Sixth Sense) that lead me to watch the film through as I wanted to know how dunnit... Viewers should be prepared for uncomfortable scenes that some other reviewers have scored this film near zero just for that. I am not going to do that and gave it a fair score for what it achieved; a well presented film, an upsetting storyline that gave said scenes such an edge, good casting and concluded without leaving me to wait for a concluding film. ...thanks for reading.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good but not great.
By Lucullus (58 reviews) , 13 Mar 2013This is a good movie but some may find some of the sexual scenes a bit hard to take. I don't know if there was a problem with my disc (although I suspect not) but I found some of the dialogue rather hard to follow and had, on some occasions, to stop and rewind to make sure I had heard right. This may also be down to the complicated story which seemed to jump about a bit, speed up and slow down which made following the movie a bit of a chore. But I stuck with it and in the end I'm glad I did. Good performances all round and it is good to see Daniel Craig in another role away from Bond. A good movie but not a great one.- Was this review helpful to you?
