    [Highly rated reviewer]

As with the original godfather a brilliant motion picture.

Pacino in the best role of his career.

  • Corleone Revisited.

    Rated - 4.0 stars
    By Aristotle (8 reviews) , 29 Dec 2012
A society sustained by the morality of sharks. Violence, the immoral exercise of power, political corruption, monopoly of Profit and Enterprise - abetted by a display of piety and religion: the Corleone family as a microcosm of Capitalism and America. Morally bankrupt but attractive and sexy - and even likable. Michael's wife, brought up in values that conflict with those of the family, hopes against hope and against her moral sense for a time when the family will be 'legitimate' and tries to close her eyes to murder and worse. She falters and is annihilated. Does Castro in Cuba represent a change of values? A well judged and well acted film, with first-class direction and impeccable atmosphere; less charismatic and energetic, but more thoughtful than 'Godfather I'.

  • The Family Way

A rare example of a prequel-cum-sequel that excels and warrants repeat viewing. The prequel sequences make the best of the limited original source material, enriched by De Niro in a formative ironic macho lead. The whole film makes great use of the prodigious lead actors - Pacino oozing manicured manners, menace, and mighty self-righteousness - while pursuing the general theme of my-family-first with dramatic, operatic action and emotional twists. So why not five stars? The point of the film is undermined by what appears to be dubbing. When Vito leaves the home village with his young Michael fare-thee-welling out of the train window, there are words to the effect of, 'Wave goodbye to your family, Michael...'

  • Quite Chilling

I remember watching this film as a teenage and thought it was amazing and glamourous due to the actors who played the main roles.

After watching it again realised just how awful the actual story is. A young innocent man who becomes obsessed with control and survival. Incredible interesting and sad story.
