The Gods Must Be Crazy, The / Gods Must Be Crazy 2

This DVD 2-pack contains 1984's, THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY and its 1990 sequel, comedy hits from South African director Jamie Uys.
In THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY 1 a tribe of bushmen living in the Kalahari Desert find their peaceful, happy existence threatened when a Coca-Cola bottle falls from the sky. The natives squabble incessantly over ownership of the mysterious item, which they believe to be a gift from the gods. Hoping to restore order, one tribesman is elected to return the bottle by journeying to the ends of the earth, which brings him into contact with modern civilization.
In the sequel, Xixo the bushman who lives deep in the African desert, following the life of his ancestors, collides again with civilization when he embarks on a search for his children. Soon, he crosses paths with two very odd couples lost in the desert and the crazy adventure begins.

Considering his meagre resources, director Jamie Uys can hardly be blamed for the tackiness of the aerial effects in this sequel to his surprise box-office hit. He must also be commended for the patience with which he constructs his gags, several of which seem to take an age to pay off. However, the unsubtlety of his slapstick and the dubiousness of some of his cultural observation make this every bit as divisive a film as its predecessor. N!xau returns as the bushman confronting civilisation, this time after his children are accidentally abducted by poachers. Frantic fun or unforgivably offensive? You decide.

    Gods Must be crazy 2

The first was so good, I ordered the sequel. The premise isn't quite so good, as there is no coke bottle, but I actually found the film funnier. I have no idea why this film is so hilarious, its cheap budget, low special effects, the sort of thing a genius child prodigy director would have turned out as a school project, but its simply genius. I guess its the sheer simplicity of it all. Way better than most Hollywood comedies. I actually laughed out loud several times, thats never happened with a Reese Withespoon comedy!

    GMBC2

Cute kids, beautiful country, but three plots running together, none of which are very strong, and this is nowhere as entertaining as GMBC1

For all that, it is a nice little film, kids would love it and some of the wildlife shots are pretty good if a little clich?d.
