At this stage in his career, Eddie Murphy was certainly the golden boy of Hollywood with hits such as Beverly Hills Cop and 48 HRS under his belt. However, not even he could save this horribly misconceived comedy adventure, in which he is cast rather improbably as a social worker who is asked to track down a Tibetan youngster (the “Golden Child”) who holds the key to the world's survival. Murphy's quick-fire quips fall flat and Michael Ritchie's direction is best described as indifferent, while Charles Dance hams it up as the baddie of the piece.

    Great Film !!

This is Eddie Murphy at the height of his career in the 80's. If you can Handle the somewhat 'dated' special FX then you'll love the 'one liners'. Good Comedy.

    TOP MOVIE !!!

Eddie Murphy followed up his Beverly Hills Cop success with this fantasy adventure that plops him right into the land of Ray Harryhausen and Indiana Jones. The plot revolves around a God-like youngster (J.L. Reate) known as a 'golden child,' who has been sent to Tibet to bring the gift of compassion to humanity. But the devil isn't idle, sending his emissary, Sardo Numspa (Charles Dance) to kidnap the golden child. Sardo absconds with the child and takes off to Los Angeles. In L.A., a beautiful Tibetan priestess named Kee Nang (Charlotte Lewis) seeks out Chandler Jarrell (Eddie Murphy), a social worker and self-styled 'finder of lost children.' She tells Chandler he has been chosen to rescue the magical child from the devil and save the world from evil. Before Chandler can let go of his first riposte, he finds himself holding a magic dagger, following a sacred parakeet, and under-going several trials by fire. He also falls in love with Kee Nang, who at one point in the film has to be brought back from the dead.

    Fantastic Film

Excellent Film, great story and eddie murphy at his finest, if you liked him in Coming to America or Trading Place, then this film is for you.

Charles Dance is also excellent in this great film.

    80's Eddie Murphy Classic

Excellent film very funny, kind of Beverley Hills Cop Meets somekind of kung foo movie. Eddie is the most unlikely hero in this adventure.

    Disappointing

I remembered this as a funny and offbeat film and was looking forward to seeing it again, but time has not been kind in this case. It came across as Eddie Murphy overkill, farsical plot line and limp heroics. Gave up after 45 minutes.

    The Golden Child.

The Golden Child stars Eddie Murphy. A private detective specializing in missing children is charged with the task of finding a special child that dark forces want to eliminate. A humorous fantasy adventure, average movie really.

    Golden moments

Weird to watch a film now as an adult that I was scared of last time I watched it, but it was even better than I remembered . How bad could it be with Eddy Murphy on form, Charles Dance looking gorg, lots of special effects, great story + a cute kid!
