Good writing, talented actors, and a string of very interesting court cases.
By H0LLIE (198 reviews) from UK , 24 Jul 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
The Good Wife stars Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, the smart, attractive wife of Chicago's state attorney, Peter Florrick (Chris Noth). A man who has just been jailed following a rather public sex/corruption scandal. But not being the type of woman to fall apart, she decides to go back to work as a litigator. The series then follows Alicia as she attempts to regain her credibility as a lawyer, and does her best to hold her family together following her husbands string of torrid affairs. And of course, this being a legal drama each new episode offeres up an intriguing new case.
This type of show isn't exactly in short supply, but The Good Wife stands apart from the crowd with good writing, talented actors, and a string of very interesting court cases. Though more a fan of action than drama I found that this program managed to hold my full attention, I came to like most of the main characters and found that I could easily sympathise with their situations. And it's always nice to see the Brittish getting credible work in the states, Archie Panjabi and Alan Cumming both act their parts well, though unfortunately they both perform with assumed American accents.
So over all this is a television series I would recommend to all those who enjoy this type of thing, and even those who are not a particular fan of the legal drama genre may find that with it's adictive story line, The Good Wife may convert them.- Was this review helpful to you?

Want more!
By a customer , 10 Mar 2012Love this series! Really easy to get addicted to it. Great to have such good writing seen through the eyes of a woman. Other characters great as well! Interest kept with different sub plots each episode but in depth character development as the series unfolds.....must now watch season 2!- Was this review helpful to you?

Great Series, Rubbish Title
By Malefice (31 reviews) from Southampton , 30 Jan 2012I almost passed this series by because of the awful title, but I'm so glad I didn't.
Brilliantly written and acted legal / court room drama which, unlike some series, doesn't rely on just the lead character to hold the show together. There are a plethora of great characters, even Alicias kids, and the judges are interesting.- Was this review helpful to you?

what a junior associate!
By a customer , 28 Oct 2011Great show. Alicia is a terrific heroine, she plays the perfect wife part perfectly!! Plenty of gribbing sub plots to keep things moving with little drops of detail for the main line issues.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Good Wife - Great Start
By NotMarkKermode (2 reviews) , 09 Aug 2011The series is excellent overall and as I missed the firsts series I rented episodes 1- 4. The pilot is excellent as it slowly introduces the main character referred to in the title as the Good Wife. The shock of the recent affair and events surrounding her husband's downfall are still reverberating.
It is in this situation that she goes back to law as a junior associate and how she handles this challenge plus all the other family distractions make for a well filmed scripted and acted series.- Was this review helpful to you?
