Before making it big directing Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone, Chris Columbus wrote the screenplay from a story by a certain Steven Spielberg for this good-natured romp, in which a gang of children tackles pirates while searching for a hoard of missing treasure. The tale rattles along like a juvenile Raiders of the Lost Ark and the young leads — including Martha Plimpton, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman — are a likeable bunch. There's also some nice hamming from villains Anne Ramsey, Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi.

    superb family film

The Goonies are a crazy bunch of misfit kids, whose only hope of saving their neighbourhood from greedy developers who want to use the area to build a new golf course, is to find the lost treasure of a 17th Century pirate. With only a dusty map and their spirit of adventure they set off.

this is a very exciting film, that my 9 year old daughter loved. well worth renting out.

Hey you guys, watch this movie.

I wont go into much detail about the story because personally I hate spoilers no matter how small. All you need to know is that this film is a world class adventure movie. It rates 3rd in my all time favourite movies, mainly because I first watched it at about the age of 8 and I came out of the pictures mesmerised. It still gets repeated viewing now.

Excellent directing by Donner of a brilliant Spielberg story that is a thrilling non stop rides packed with laughs. Whoever was responsible for casting also needs a huge pat on the back, the child actors in this movie provide flawless performances and suite each character impeccably.

As you?ve probably noticed I?ve nothing but praise for this film. Best still any generation can enjoy all the levels of the film so it is perfect family entertainment. 5 stars.

    Kids film, not for adults!

If your children are under 14 then they'll probably enjoy some kiddy-humour moments, but don't expect much as an adult!

    Hey yooooooooou guuuuuuuuys!

I challenge anyone who was born at the start of the eighties to give me one reason why they didn't want to be a Goonie?

Spielberg was spot on when he wrote this one. Great characterisation in a young team of adventures pursued by some nasty bad guys.

You may have forgotten phrases like "boobie twaps", "the truffle shuffle" and "You boys like tongue", but believe you me they'll be on the tip of you tongue as you take this trip down memory lane.

See Chunk, Mouth, Data and the rest of the gang on an adventure of a life time, great entertainment for all the family!

    Goonies never say die!

    Awful

The worst film I have rented for the kids. We watched about 30 minutes before switching off. A big disappointment

    SLICK SHOES?! ARE YOU CRAZY?!!

The goonies is one of the best 'children's' films of all time! Every decent human being between the ages of 0-100 should rate this highly, and it is cinematical aceness in every sense of the word(s).

Data is probably one of the best characters to have ever to have graced the film world, and there are so many great quotes in this film that you will never live another day without repeating at least three of them to friends/neighbours/your boss/arresting officers etc.

THE GOONIES- BEST FILM TO FEATURE A BOY CALLED DATA BEING SAVED BY HIS PINCHERS OF HELL.

    scary

Our kids (7 and 10) decided they didn't want to see any more after the body in the fridge. And the opening scene hanging was a bit heavy too. So don't choose this if you want something very PLEASANT. Our kids aren't scardy cats generally, but this one was too much.

    Total rubbish

Wouldnt recommend this to anyone. My kids switched off within 20 minutes, I had gone to sleep 5 before they swtiched off..

Seemed to be a movie about VERY LOUD American children who spoke slang all the time.

Would NEVER recommend to anyone EVER.

Nope not to be repeated in my lifetime.

    Of it's time

Firmly embedded in the 80s, The Goonies is about a group of kids (annoying obviously) who save the day, get the girl, find the treasure etc. as the lead is about to get evicted from the family home.

Some pleasant enough moments but not in the same league as Indiana Jones.

    Disappointing

Rented this film to see Sean Astin's early film role. Having read the reviews we were expecting much better things from this movie but my two teenagers and I were all very disappointed with this. It may well be appealing to children but we all struggled with boredom. Some good effects towards the end but we had all lost interest well before this point.
