Good period detail
By wildgeese from England , 02 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
A good heist film set in victorian england.A great jerry goldsmith score to.
Keep a look out for the dance wane sleep.
The action on the tops of the train are really well filmed, and it looks like sean connery did most of the stunts?.
A decent film to past an afternoon.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)Still Good
By Otter379 (59 reviews) , 08 May 2013This is one of the movies we had on VHS in the early '80s, along with Superman and Blazing Saddles. Just revisited: it's still good. An excellent cast and a grimy London give this film a realistic look. This coupled with eye brow raising stunts - being carried out by Sean Connery - doing some rather dangerous manoeuvres on the top of a speeding train gives this an extra boost. You don't see that kind of thing anymore.- Was this review helpful to you?

Period crime story....good but not a classic
By Scotkev (17 reviews) from Coventry, UK , 13 Feb 2011I decided to rent this film because I had read Michael Crichton's book on which it was based.
He also wrote the screenplay and directed the film.
I would say that, although I am a great fan of Michael's books - in my opinion, this book was one of his weaker ones.
Having said that - I found the film very watchable and entertaining.
Sean Connery is not a personal favourite of mine - but he was fine in this role.
Donald Sutherland was good as always.
Also, it's nice to see Lesley Anne Down vamping it up as one of the gang.
And is this the only film that Wayne Sleep has featured in ?
Worth a watch - but NOT a classic.

LAST GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY
By a customer from TUNBRIDGE WELLS, ENGLAND , 15 Nov 2010As usual with Michael Crichton, the research overrides the story and gets in its way. A realistic depiction of Victorian London is the backdrop for a crime caper with class that crackles with sexual wit but is decidedly lacking in thematic content or context or interesting characterization. Dickens could have made something smart and sociological with this material but Crichton simply is not up to the task.
Good escapist fun, with a thrilling finale, but essentially disposable.- Was this review helpful to you?

1st Great Train Robbery
By a customer from East Yorkshire. , 16 Nov 2007I rather enjoyed this film, I have seen it before years ago on video, Sean Connery, Lesley Anne Down & Donald Sutherland who were the main characters were great, It had a bit of humour about it which added to the movie's entertainment, A little different to the film 'Buster' which was to do with money instead of gold and without the use of violence, At the end of the day it's a personnel choice but one I would recommend.
P.s if there's anybody who's a fan of Heartbeat see if you can spot Bernie Scripps from the garage- Was this review helpful to you?

Almost First Class
By a customer from London,Enland , 18 Sep 2007Victorian thriller Starring SeanConnery,Donald Sutherland and Lesley Anne Down.
An attempt by these three actors to steal from a moving train travelling between two cities.
Well acted but slighly overlong and takes a long time to get going.
Not bad- Was this review helpful to you?
