Director Ron Howard casts comedian Jim Carrey in the title role in this live-action adaptation of the famous Christmas tale by Dr. Seuss, giving this rendition of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS a delightfully manic spin. Carrey is virtually unrecognizable in his elaborate green makeup, but his anarchic comic touch is .. Read more

Dr Seuss's cult children's favourite How the Grinch Stole Christmas! gets the big-budget Hollywood treatment in this seasonal spectacular from director Ron Howard. Starring an irrepressible and almost unrecognisable Jim Carrey, it's the magical and visually splendid tale of a miserable, green-furred mountain-dweller who's out to wreck the extravagant festive celebrations in the kooky town of Whoville below. A vivacious delight capable of charming the most Scrooge-like viewer, this fantasy frolic is, in the end, such a heart-warmer it deserves to become a genre classic. However, parents should be warned that the often dark humour and Carrey's madcap excesses may be too much for the very young.
"...Mr. Carrey's ability to pentrate his character's disguise and get away with his usual mugging and clowning is technically no small accomplishment..."
"...Thanks to makeup whiz Rick Baker's surprisingly flexible latex work, Carrey's patented rubbery expressions are allowed to come through unimpeded..."
We expected good things from this movie and were not disappointed. My children really enjoyed it (age 4 and 5)and insisted on watching it 3 times in two days!!
Jim Carrey is brilliant as the Grinch and this film has a lovely chrismas fantasy theme. Great to rent at this time of the year. Mum and Dads will enjoy this one too!
I love THE GRINCH! based on Doctor Suess's How The Grinch Stole Christmas.{ Doctor Suess is one of my favourite authors - this story is so wacky!}
Jim Carrey is my favourite actor and he's the star, yipee! oh and the film has a lovely heart warming end. but there's plenty for audiences not keen OTT saccharin then the end isn't the only good thing about it. the film is very funny{ The Grinch sometimes cruel but funny at the same time!] but you really feel for The Grinch{ he was picked on} and he deserves audience sympathy. i watch this film every christmas. next time it's on{ probably at Christmas!} you should see it!
A great comedy. Jim Carey is at his best in this film. A great watch. Not a film that can be seen over and over again.
This film is sentimental and funny and has enough to keep the kids amused but also a lot of grown up jokes too (not smutty for kids but enough to make you laugh).
It's a mushy feel-good as well as down right naughty movie. It's fun and has the message at the end.
The film is all about the Grinch, a lonely fellow who would rather stay this way because his heart is two sizes too small, but hadn't reckoned on Cindy Lou who decides that her town is too focused on gifts and not the love that means Christmas. So..... she is gonna save the Grinch and save Christmas!!
There is a lot of humour and a bit of sadness when we find out about the grinch's past, but as in all good films good prevails over bad and after a few naughty tricks, including stealing all the christmas paraphenalia, the Grinch realises that his heart can grow and whoville realise that they don't need the material stuff to have a peaceful warm time!!
Pop the popcorn, heat the hot chocolate and settle down for a family film one cold sunday night!!!
Lovely film, good few funny bits, nice visual colours, suitable for mostly children, my 7yr old has seen it so many times, that he now recites parts of the film!
A follow up film would be nice

Another classic Jim Carey movie. Touching and very suitable for Christmas as it shows that Christmas isn't only about presents. Very funny at times.
IT WAS VERY WICKED AND I LIKED THE PART WHEN THE GRINCH STEALS ALL THOSE PRESENTS AND THE CAT. IT WAS NICE AT THE END WHERE EVERYBODY WAS TOGETHER AT CHRISTMAS.

Good make up is all that it going for this film. No particular storyline and very boring in parts.
MY DAUGHTER AND I BOTH LOVED IT AND HAVE RATED IT 5 AS IT IS A CLASSIC FOR THE FUTURE
Its got a kids rating but it aint worth it. Its a bad excuse for a movie. Jim Carry's worst film
