This entry is one of the best in the never-ending series, with an unlucky TV crew unleashing the haunted house's curse...It's genuinely creepy

Grudge II has some genuinely spine tingling moments that really do have a horror factor about them, and it is much more of a film than Grudge I, however the storyline is paper thin, and there are better out there. I would say see it, but don't have it right at the top of your list.
A harrowing tale told exceptionally well The Grudge 2 is a frightfully dark and disturbing motion picture. The film tracks the seemingly innocuous antics of a group of high school girls at an International School in Japan. Their childish chicanery leads an unsuspecting girl into Japan's most haunted residence.
What follows is a living nightmare. The presence of evil is so omnipotent in this dilapidated structure that it literally pulses through the walls. The cursed forces at work slowly possess and consume all who enter their domain. The Japanese direction of this film adds a depth, as yet unseen, to films typical of this genre. The Gothic ambiance; the isolated locales and the mystique of Japanese culture ensure that a sense of realism is lent to the story. The iniquity is so powerfully captured on camera that it is difficult not to feel unnerved by the cinematography. As the story writhes in agony, so too do the filmmakers drag the audience across continents to tell this harrowing tale.
The momentum of this horror gradually builds up with each sequence while maintaining a dastardly tension throughout.
For me personally the best kind of film is the one that leaves you too scared to go upstairs on your own afterwards..... The Grudge 2 is that film!! The plot is complex, clever, confusing and bold....in parts it becomes so intricate that it's frustrating to watch because you just don't know where the conclusion lies. However, this movie is white knuckle scary, with jumps and bumps all the way, this more than makes up for some of the zany plot choices. Rare is the occasion where a sequel to a fairly major movie actually meets or surpasses expectations, for me this one did. I don't know whether audiences in general would feel the same, but if you're a real horror fan like me this will push all your buttons. White Noise 2 is next on my list..... watch this space!
This film makes no sense, it is pointless and lacks any originality. I was a fan of the first grudge, but this vastly inferior sequel adds nothing to the original and actually has made me dislike it more. There is not one decent scare, and by the end you're left thinking 'what was the point?'. Rubbish!
I am afraid I must disagree with several other reviewers, and tell you this film is both poor as a sequel, and as a film. The acting is at best average, much of the plot is nonsensical, and the only decent part, the actual scares, seem to be the only reason for the film to exist! A series of set piece scares, and no plot!!
The scares themselves are very effective, and very well done and creepy,so a star for them alone, but by diluting the story and having one part of the film based in Chicago, the story as a whole suffers.
dvd is ok, a few extras, but overall, having been a fan of the first film, I was very disappointed with this.

Sorry but this was nothing like the first film and how original the GRUDGE 2?
Anyway the acting is poor, the storyline, well at least there is one but it isn't very good and the ending ??/ What can i say ! If you liked the first one you WILL be dissapointed
A difficult movie to review this one, the filming style had changed slightly from the first instalment, whilst this in itself is not a bad thing that plot had started to lose its way and with SM Gellars role was little more than cameo we could go no further than 3 stars here.. The director did do very well with creating good levels of tension and the film provides a few jumps which was good however the plot just did not flow or inspire so although we were jumping a little we were not fully drawn into the characters. The acting was reasonable and the pace slow but tense making for a reasonable nights viewing but I would not rush to get this on top of your rental list! Above average, 6/10. 3 Stars.

It's the same with all these rip off's of Japanese movies, you have three options.
1. Subtitles and great movies
2. american and crap missinterpretation.
3. Learn Japanese
The tension the acting everything about the original smashes this re-enactment into the world of high-tech low-value special effects.
there is about 3 different stories going on in this movie. it just jumps from one to the other then back again, a total mish mash.
I found that the sequel was a disappointment due to a number of reasons:
1) Lack of a coherent plot
2) Lack of originality as it just seemed to be scary but nothing else
3) Very predictable
I could generate a massive list but generally I didnt like the film and it was not as good as the first. Im certainly not looking forward to the third part of the sequel either.
Perhaps the fact that it took me six attempts to watch this film in order to finish it indicates that it's not the most gripping nor frightening horror in the world. Given that it's been directed by the same guy behind both the Japanese originals and the American remake, it may seem a bit redundant to some viewers.
Judged on it's own merits however, there is still little to recommend it. There are a couple of freaky moments, but no real genuine scares. The characters demand little of your empathy and as the plot takes ever more confusing and incomprehensible turns, you'll cease to care about the fates of any of the characters come the disappointing climax.
