Superior American RemakeBy Samuel Tyler from Reading, England , 11 Nov 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]This film has received mixed reviews from people in the Media with the likes of Hotdog magazine giving it 4 out of 5 while News of the World only give it 1. Depending on which of these two titles you are more likely to agree with will go a long way on deciding whether this film is for you.
Remade from a Japanese horror film of the same name and by the same director, The Grudge represents a new type of sub-genre yet to hit the West. Rather than go for the out and out shocks of its American counterparts The Grudge builds up the tension with strange occurrences and non-linear storyline.
I personally felt it was the scariest film I have seen for a long time and would recommend it to not only Japanese film fans but also horror fans. Probably one to miss though if you are not a fan of a more leisurely paced film.

Terrifyingly brilliantBy a customer from Harrogate , 28 Aug 2009Although not a horror fan, I watched this because a friend choose it.
A year on I tried to watch it again, this time with my girlfriend. We managed the first 15-20 mins before she turned it off...
An absolutely excellent jumpy horror film that will have you sleeping with the lights on and cupboards open for a good few nights afterwards.
Sure the acting isn't Oscar winning, and the plot pretty thin - but it's a very frightening japanese horror - who needs complex in-depth character development?
I have no criticisms of this film - except it was way too scary for me!
So dullBy Jared (1 review) from Nottingham , 12 Jul 2009My word. Heard a lot about this, yet no-one warned me quite how tedious it is. Lordy. To be honest, can't really be bothered to write any more than this. Just avoid. If anyone relocates my will to live, could they post it back to Nottingham, please? Many thanks.
