Superior American RemakeBy Samuel Tyler from Reading, England , 11 Nov 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]This film has received mixed reviews from people in the Media with the likes of Hotdog magazine giving it 4 out of 5 while News of the World only give it 1. Depending on which of these two titles you are more likely to agree with will go a long way on deciding whether this film is for you.
Remade from a Japanese horror film of the same name and by the same director, The Grudge represents a new type of sub-genre yet to hit the West. Rather than go for the out and out shocks of its American counterparts The Grudge builds up the tension with strange occurrences and non-linear storyline.
I personally felt it was the scariest film I have seen for a long time and would recommend it to not only Japanese film fans but also horror fans. Probably one to miss though if you are not a fan of a more leisurely paced film.

a bit toooo weirdBy cheesekake (1498 reviews) from uk , 04 Nov 2012this film was ok, but a bit tooo weird. I've heard the Japanese authentic version is way better, really must see that some time to compare, otherwise I'm not really recommending this film unless you wanted to be just going 'what?'
fantastic japanese style horrorBy Daura (73 reviews) from Coventry , 06 Oct 2012this is a great example of japanese horror and the japanese version is great too. watched many times and thoroughly enjoyed
Good funBy vakarian19 (4 reviews) from Farnborough , 13 Apr 2012I watch so much world cinema, extreme cinema, horror etc and although I will still say the best horrors are coming out of france and the worst from Hollywood; this here is a little delight!
A genuinely scary film, The Grudge is the american remake of Ju-on: The Curse, a japanese movie released a few years before. I watched the original not long after it's release date and remember it being a rather chilling and jumpy movie that refused to lean on cheap scares and gimmicks.
Unfortunately the remake was a little softer on such things and does contain the odd dragging scene where the fear is taken away by the obvious set up into the next 'jumpy bit'. I also found some scenes to drag along pointlessly for a few minutes before it kicks back into action...
However, it would be unfair for me to say that and then neglect to mention that what this film DID benifit from was a larger budget and a script that did not stray too far from the original, therefore keeping the eerie otherworldly feel japanese filmmakers craft so effortlessly but adding what the americans do so well; CGI, makeup and a little bit of over the top dramatics.
For those of you who like your horror but not extreme, this movie is for you. It's chilling, it's fun, you'll need to turn the lights on when going to the bathroom at night but you will be able to still be able to sleep after watching it.
Great film ...By a customer , 29 Mar 2012This film is really good but most of people think that it is creepy and scary. But I think is really good but in some scenes are very scary. I think this film is really popular in Japan and USA. I wish I could watch it again, but I want to watch the sequel , the Grudge2. I hope it will be as well good as the first one. The little girl who was strong enough to play in that film she was amazing.
Worth watching xox LOLBy a customer , 05 Feb 2012Great film, gripping from start to finish - will now watch The Grudge 2, although not sure it will be so good.
