    [Highly rated reviewer]

When 'The Guard' was released in Ireland a few weeks ago it took the box office and critics alike , by storm.

Directed by John Michael McDonagh the brother of Martin, who directed the excellent ' In Bruge' and starring the same actor Brendan Gleeson , this film is a little gem.

Gleeson stars along side Don Cheadle as two very different police officers who are investigating a drugs cartel.

The Dialogue is fantastic and although the director denies it , it seems written for the brilliant Gleeson.

It is extremely funny and some of it reminds me of the early Tarentino movies, ( without the extreme violence).

The story is very good too and if i had to criticise it for anything it's because at 90 minutes it's too short.

    I wanted more!

The Guard is a low budget movie that deserves all the great reviews it is getting.

    Highly Recommended.

at the beginning of this film I thought I would not like it & even possibly turn it off before the end. As it turned out I quite enjoyed it & Brendan Gleeson was very well cast.

Brendan Gleeson is splendid. Found myself chuckling at his sense of humour and outlook on life. Well worth watching(probably twice)

  • Worth watching but listen carefully

Entertaining, fresh and worth a watch... sound track was either poor or you need time to get used to the heavy dialect to catch all that was being said but other than that a stereotypical view of the Irish or maybe an accurate account, who knows...

  • A certain charm

This was a good film, driven by Gleeson's perfomance as the enigmatic Sgt. Boyle, his interaction with Cheadle and a serviceable plot. Despite some violence, there is a certain charm and humour about this film that keeps you watching to the end.

I enjoyed this film much more than I was expecting to, well worth a watch. Brendon Gleeson and Don Cheadle are amazing in it, and all the characters were great!
