Better when there are no jokesBy TheWatchman (753 reviews) from Suburbia , 03 Jul 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]A film with Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand. How could it possibly fail? Well, it sort of does. If youve watched the trailers, you may be under the impression that youre going to be in for a laugh-a-minute ride of silliness which will leave you giggling your gloves off. Nothing could be further from the truth. Warning: this is a joke free film. And, its major problem, is that it seems to think that its funny. You may smirk once or twice, but thats about it. However, its not all bad. Rogen and Streisand are both excellent actors in their own right and they do have some chemistry, but it only really comes out when theyre not trying to be funny. They play mother and son who go on a road trip across America. All the way theyre bickering with each other and this is supposed to be funny. It isnt its mainly stereotypical Jewish references. Yet, when they fall out (and they do, fortunately) and start arguing, thats when the movie really picks up. I dont regret watching it. I just wished I wasnt expecting a hilarious comedy. Just make sure youre in the mood for more of a laugh-free affair before you sit down to watch it and you should get more out of it.

Gentle and EntertainingBy a customer , 30 Nov 2013Gentle observation of mother - son relationship with a bit of comedy thrown in. Believable characters making it very entertaining.
Definitely worth the trip.By The KnightWatcher (629 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 11 Nov 2013Barbra Streisand is excellent in this comedy about an overbearing and nagging mother who smothers her son , and generally drives him crazy. She accompanies him on a drive across the USA whilst he attends a series of promotional business meetings. The film is made by an excellent script as the pair who are bound by love and mutual irritation verbally spar rather like When Harry Met Sally. The film contains a great deal of subtle humour that sees the funny side of the love hate relationship between a devoted son and an obsessive adoring mother who cannot let go. Through the experiences they share on the journey they gradually come to understand and respect each other more for who they are, a great film.
Very comicBy a customer , 06 Nov 2013Some very comic dialogue, thoroughly enjoyedit. Dragged a bit at times but was boosted by some good sub-characters. Non violent, non-sexual, simple entertainment.
Better than expectedBy DangerMills (18 reviews) , 23 Oct 2013Okay, it's not a classic but it's an entertaining way to spend 95 minutes. I laughed out loud several times and had the occasional 'something in my eye' moment. Rogen and Streisand have great chemistry. I liked it.
Watchable - okBy a customer , 20 Oct 2013I'm not a great fan of Seth Rogan, but this film was OK. Funny at times. Sometimes irritating, but watchable.
