This film is the best French Film I know. It appeals mainly to men by pulling on their adolescent dreams of visiting hairdressers playing out their fantasies with one :-)

Some bizarre layers of artistic artifact permeat the screen as you are projected through the film. Some interesting lighting scenes in the Hairdressers salon provide an enjoyable view of a hairdresser nympho that has an interesting ending!!

    Must see.....

  • Something for the weekend Sir?

As a young boy Antoine experiences an intense infatuation with a buxom hairdresser. Cut to late middle age and all his dreams come true when he marries a beautiful woman, who happens to own her own salon. Their all consuming relationship is playful and passionate and not a little strange. For everyone who thinks this is a charming, amusing and erotic fantasy, there will be another who thinks it a pointless and silly old man's wet dream with very strange dancing. Unfortunately, I was stuck somewhere in the middle.

  • Fantasy with an edge of sadness

If you want films to be 'realistic', this one won't be for you. It's shot through with absurdity as the kind of fantasies people push into corners of their mind in real life are made to come true. It's a kind of gently 'what if' comedy. What if a man really did keep the obsession with a sexy hairdresser than he developed as a boy, and really did find a beautiful hairdresser to marry in later life and live out his fantasy with? I loved it for the humour with which it presented different kinds of monomaniacs and sent up French politesse. I loved the understated subtlety of the acting, and some brilliant framing and cutting of shots. I loved the tone of gentle sadness and resignation that underlay it from the beginning, which was born out at the end when we realised the mental prisons of obsession that the characters really lived in throughout. I've only given it four stars because I'd want a higher level of emotional intensity to give more; but it is a charming and delightful film that I'd happily watch many times.

This film just didn't do it for me! Believable in some parts but in others it was just plain silly and ridiculous.

A tad too very slow and unconvincing ...

Sheer brillance!! Saw The Hairdressers Husband some years ago and it became one of my favorite movies. After putting this on my list i had my reservations about seeing it again as at had been some years and thought it may have dated but no i loved it more. Yes it follows a young boys fantasy but also tackles love and loss and how much two people if you meet the right person can honestly be together. A beautifully written movie. I love it A+++++
