Shocking... Raw... Gripping
What a load of self indulgent, just out of film school nonsense. Asia Argento, daughter of famous horror director Dario Argento directs and acts in what can only by viewed as a vanity project. She can't act and relies on teasing the audience with sick shock tactics and a barebones script. The story (as such) revolves around a wayward, negligent teenage mother who manages to get her unwanted child back from his loving foster parents only to abuse him. It's downhill from there on. The film meanders like a drunkenly to a limp conclusion of surrealist improv. The actors looks confused and no wonder.
I expected not to like this film having struggled to read JT LeRoy's books, but found myself watching some great performances from some of the actors, (not all) the first Jeremiah is particulary good, a good punky sound-track and some judicious and intelligent film-making that managed to avoid the prurience that I'd expect in adapting JT LeRoy.
So if you're an adult, and do arthouse I'd suggest that you might give this modest film a look.
