(14)Just Good enough
By a customer from London , 13 Oct 2008Acting's not great, and yes it does borrow from other Asian genre films, but then most of them do. The Ring borrows from 'Kwaidan' made in 1965 .....so what? It's how it's done that's important. Not particularly scary, definately not for those looking for all out horror, but i did like the story, the atmosphere generated and the pace of the film (i like gradually building stories).
Biggest downside for me was the very end.....totally cliched and annoying........Why do they have to do it? (oh yeah for a possible sequal !!!)- Was this review helpful to you?

Mish mash ends up a mess...
By ChrisBarraclough (15 reviews) from London , 22 May 2008I'm a huge fan of Asian horror, and managed to catch quite a lot of smaller productions while I was out there, as well as more commercial stuff such as Eye 2. So yeah, you can probably call me a horror nerd. I picked this up hoping it would have some good scares and an engrossing plot, but I was left disappinted and really can't recommend it.
The biggest complaint is that it simply copies a slew of other horror films, all of which were scarier, creepier and overall better produced. Elements of Ju-On, One Missed Call, Shutter, Phone, Dumplings and many others can all be found here - the creepy house, the freaky images appearing in TV's and on phones, a family with a dark secret, the list goes on. It's all staler than a corner shop baguette, and about as scary as catching sight of Jade Goody in a swimsuit.
On top of this, the direction and acting, in a word, suck. In two words, suck hard. Normally I can't tell if acting is any good in an Asian film as I'm just trying to keep up with the subtitles, but man, it was bad. At noticing that their friend has magically appeared in their attic for the fourth time, they react with all the surprise and horror of discovering that they went out and forgot to set the video for Corrie. Just avoid this please, it's a waste of a rental.

Better than they'll have you believe
By Cacodemon (2 reviews) from Herts , 28 May 2007The reviews below complaining of a lack of subtitles and such are completely nonsense. My girlfriend and I managed to follow the story just fine even while having dinner. Perhaps people who are not fans of subtitled films should not rent subtitled films?
The storyline was interesting and showed potential, the acting was on par and the atmosphere was good but you do get the feeling they could have done more with such a lovely old house with such character.- Was this review helpful to you?
