    [Highly rated reviewer]

    Great film.

Wonderful performances by Bryce Howard (Hilly Holbrook), Octavia Spencer (Minnie Jackson) and Sissy Spacek (Missus Walters) was hilarious.

Americans can pull it off sometimes. Good acting, and good of-the-era. Driving miss Daisy with a true story. All are believable characters, and gets the point across, but with some levity on the way.

Initially lulled me into a 'lil ol' town feeling, this film certainly packed some racially prejudiced points by the end. Well acted by a host of 'unknowns', it was a pleasure to watch, though a little syrupy.

Can't be many guys who watched this one on their own!! My wife won't watch movies of good books. Grrr! Anyway, I read it too. It's very loyal to the book both in story and in emotional tone and characterisation. Very respectful of the quiet dignity of the main characters- and I guess the millions who must have suffered similarly. Quite emotional but thought provoking.
