Directed in tense, concentrated jabs...the remake establishes a jittery family dynamic as well as the original
I just saw this in the cinema, and I am disturbed by the efforts directors will go to shock people. This is a very sick movie, and I am not shocked easily.
Horror films are not scary anymore... they have become gory, and violent to an extent that the next film has to be even worse than the last.
Whatever happened to films like The Shining, or Carrie. Sure, they had violent and gory moments but they also played on your mind and made you think.
Feeling sick and shaking your head in total disbelief is not entertainment.
I watched this film last night and really wished I hadn't bothered, as that was 2 hours of my life I'm not going to get back... Basically family has map, ignores map and takes the advise of some creepy old bloke at a rundown petrol station in the middle of no where, which is to drive through the dessert on a road that is not on the said map. Mutants living in the dessert take family off the road, some of family are killed and some live... oh and there's a brief mention here and there about 'nucular testing', which was probably relevant in the original but didn't really mean too much today. That's it in a nut shell. Film wasn't as gory as I expected with the favoured wepon of choice by the mutants being a gun! My advise... don't bother.
